Michael Galindo, 26, learned the hard way that anything and everything is seemingly fair game for an FBI investigation. He was taking photos of a dark and stormy rain cloud above his native Texas town of Houston last month and had to pay the consequences for it when a federal agent appeared at his front door on Friday.

I want to know whats going on in that refinery to get an FBI response?

Most likely the refinery is used for refining oil :D

Oil refineries, power stations and the like are all considered to be potential targets for attacks, so obviously there's going to be fairly strong security around them.

FBI = Federal Bureau Investigation which means regardless of authority they have a duty to investigate any report of suspicious behaviour by associated forces. It means the likes of 'joe bloggs' doesn't warrant such a investigation forwarded to the FBI but if reasonable suspicion by state forces is then referred onto the FBI then they have a means to investigate.

A bit OTT in honesty given the state force could have simple done the same questioning under a preliminary investigation, but that's America for you.

Most normal people don't go around taking photographs of clouds - and therefore, those of us who do will inevitably attract suspicion. If you saw a stranger, on his own, using an expensive camera when there was apparently nothing of interest to photograph except perhaps the place you worked as a security guard, or maybe the children in the playround, what would you do? It's something I'm always conscious of, even in this country. Edited by Essan

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
