NOTE: For those that tend to have a look at these updates, due to the forum closures, getting banned and whatnot, trying to update this every week is impossible. I will, however, make an attempt to post a brief summary here each week anyway, but I may not be as consistent as before.
I will though, be making a more detailed update each week with extra graphs and data, on the NSIDC thread on the Arctic Sea Ice forum  (ignore the warning, it's a https site and is actually more secure than most). You need to be logged in to view the images though.

Surely the temperature on the surface of the ice is going to be below freezing until its gone? Of more concern are the areas on the edges that are currently iced up but showing as above freezing. That suggests melting in those areas soon.

The BBC reports the following lets hope this is a new trend as we enter a deep solar min over the next 10/20 years

Data from Europe's Cryosat spacecraft suggests there were almost 9,000 cu km of ice at the end of this year's melt season.

This is close to 50% more than in the corresponding period in 2012.

It is a rare piece of good news for a region that has witnessed a rapid decline in both area cover and thickness in recent years.
