I think its high time we start the annual first ground and air frost thread of the season.

Tonight could see many parts of Highland record their first ground frost of the season and in some places their first air frost.

Notorious frost hollows such as Redesdale and Shap could record their first air frost of the season as well, and there is a chance some northern parts of england seeing a ground frost.

Would be interested to hear peoples predictions and records.

I think a few stations in the Yorkshire Dales Valleys could easily fall below freezing, they're below 5C already.

anyway it's 6C here

Unlikely there will be a frost here, but looking around wunderground there do seem to a few very low readings around the Sheffield area. It will be interesting to see how cold it gets in Northern England, come tomorrow morning.

Only 8C here in the countryside north of Glasgow but it should be a degree or two colder just north of the Campsie hills. The temperature should drop below 7C tonight which is nice for late summer but it would be even nicer if we could get down to below 6 or 5C.

Btw it's no where near normal to have a max of 12c as we did hear today, especially under completely clear skies. That has to be an August first!

4.8c now, going down at 0.4c/hour.

5.8'c and continually dropping in Buxton, another 6 hours to go before peak night minima so expecting around 2'c or so by morning, not quite a frost but certainly the nights are drawing in and the dinural range is responding close to the September Equinox.

4.3c with ground frost forming here, bits of cloud about so doubt it will get below 3c. We had plus 1c on the last day of August 2010.

It feels cold out here, but temp only 9.5c. One of the more colder nights we have had for quite some time.

It was not clear blue skies here today, there was a fair amount of cloud around at times but as you rightfully suggest, even in any sunshine the temperature did not rise all that much, only around 12-13C today with a stiff Northerly wind, not very August like!

Chilly night at the moment, might get too see some condensation on the windows if the temps drop low enough with our poor insulation and windows!

3C at Sennybridge, fifteen miles away, so it looks almost certain to dip below freezing up there.

The town I live in is in a basin surrounded by valleys and hills so we're naturally very frost-prone. 4.6C here, so we may just scrape it. Can't remember the last time I saw an August frost.

At about 2ish I remember looking at the sky and it was basically cloud-less, just a few. Brisk wind, could feel it when playing some 5-a-side!

4.5c now.

7.2C here, not bad considering I'm located quite close to centre of town. I'd imagine some of the surrounding countryside is around 5-6C at the minute.

It's 2.6C.. this is far far lower than the 7C forecast.. there must be an air frost in the valleys.

Dropped 2.4c in the screen on my electronic instruments, not checked official therms yet, though they are normally within + or - 0.1c. So looks like the coldest August night on local record here since 1991. Full report later.
