Good luck in the SE Guys.

Usually as soon as I step foot out of the country all manner of Supercells, Spanish Plumes and other wierd and wonderful Weather events unfold in the SE...........But this time it might be benign for the next 7-10 days.

Nice to have a taste of Summer these last 2 weeks, now off to 39-45c heat and Desert Storms, will post some pictures over the next week in here just to show Cg's are not a myth!

See you in September!

Where are you off to? Somewhere like Texas, Arizona or Las Vegas?

Mmmmm, I hope Gordon isn't going to mess things up and spoil the bank holiday weekend - I'm going to a wedding on Saturday and then my birthday celebrations begin on Sunday so I'd really like it to be dry !

Brain not in gear yet. I was thinking who is Gordon?doh.gif

One things for sure, you won't be dry (alcohol induced, maybe) come the end of those celebrations. As for the weather, it will be a Bank Holiday, so whilst I suspect a wet one, the majority of showers will be probably away from this region, will they not? Too early to tell really as the wise folk in here have suggested but gut feeling rules more often than not.

Go check out those Fax Charts with Gordon on them, they are a rare sight indeed.

Well my actual birthday is on Wednesday 29th not the bank holiday itself .... but I like to make it last as long as possible, I will have to sober up briefly to work next Tuesday though which is an annoying interruption to my planned celebrations angel.gif

Depending on the direction of the jet, you just never know who might gatecrash the BH weekend........

It is déjà vu for the Azores with Hurricane Gordon approaching; the same scene played out the last time a storm was named Gordon in the Atlantic six years ago. Gordon remains a powerful Category 1 hurricane, whose latest statistics are given by the AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center.

The strongest tropical system recorded so far in the Atlantic Basin this year is on a collision course with the Azores, passing across or in between the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria early Monday morning. Gordon will be a weakening hurricane at that time, but it will still pound these islands with winds strong enough to cause power outages and some damage to homes and businesses.

Tropical storm-force winds will start howling early tonight. Winds of similar strength will also graze the central islands of the Azores through Monday morning. Rain will become steadier and heavier across the islands of Sao Miguel and Santa Maria as Gordon approaches. A total of 3 to 6 inches of rain is expected by the AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center through Monday morning with flash flooding a serious concern. All of the Azores will be battered by rough surf and pounding waves kicked up by Gordon.

Beachfront homes and communities should prepare for coastal flooding. Conditions will rapidly improve across the Azores by Monday afternoon as Gordon continues its east-northeastward track, weakening into a tropical storm over the cooler waters of the eastern Atlantic.

It is still incredibly hot here in the mountains of andalucia, despite the altitude. I'm guessing that the saharan heat we have here kept motoring north by northeast to hit you folk. If it had the aroma of rioja, iberico ham and mosquito coils then it may have passed us directly overhead! If so, enjoy.

Morning all,

Cool, calm and overcast here - but at least it's dry (for now)

What happened to that Ark someone was building - do we need to get it out of storage for a BH weekend cruise ?

So, the August bank holiday is set to be a wash out... as usual cray.gif

I think they should move the August BH back a couple of weeks, as it's so common for an unsettled spell at the end of August, in my experience. I'd also remove May Day and replace it with a 'Trafalgar Day' in October, which would appropriately be the 21st October or the following Monday, if the 21st October falls on a weekend day... The 21st of October being my birthdaytongue.png , so it would mean me never working on my birthday again!wink.pnglaugh.png

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
