As this is the snow and ice build up thread, I would imagine he is referring to the promising signs over Europe and the Northern Hemisphere at the current time. Posted Image

However, before you say it............................................................

Let us hope, in the words of D'ream, "things can only get better".

!! I hope so.

I'm not quite sure of your logic here mate.

I agree in terms of climate we are a light year away from that of eastern france or western germany just because they have snow no guarantee we will see it last feb perfect example of that, most of europe apart from the british isles had killing cold we got nowt!!

Maybe of interest to followers of what has been discussed before.

Q Does having snow close to the UK in recent years become more common at the times we see the UK having its greatest snow coverage

A Yes

Evidence backing up that answer.

As it only was 7 days into winter 2012/13 I am not expecting to see December 7th as our peak snow coverage but see one or more reloads of snow into Europe and then snow reloads after going into the UK before the end of the winter.

Snow has pushed down to Texas , still waiting for the peak of the U.S.A snow coverage and the ice is filling out in the Hudson bay.

of course its more complex, its just that with the current snowfall pattern, we are more likely to be included in it, whereas last year it didn't really get into western europe (at least at this point) the previous 2 years it did. its a simple indicator rather than scientific fact.

Fair enough bing, meteorology is a science in itself and so many folk don't even accept that simple fact. Such as when the model runs are stated as gospel at t+ whatever. Posted Image

Anyway, as for the UK, more snow will come and hopefully to yours and my own back yard before too long. Posted Image

what you are showing are set ups where cold weather happens at the same time not when the UK follows suit..here are 3 recent very cold winters across North America 2002/3...1988/89...1976/77..none of which were cold in the UK

I still feel that the is some kind of setup link between the two that has shown in recent years and may help us later in the winter, each to their option I guess.

Latest snow cover

Posted Image

Quite a marked east-west split across Europe, the snowline almost follows the old 'iron curtain' with romania and bulgaria and poland white, though notably czech republic, hungary and the former east germany green. The snow over scandi has now bed in and will stay in situ through the rest of the winter it seems. NE china looks slim on the snow front, no snow in south korea, the difference between west coast of Japan and east coast of Japan is marked.

I suspect the cover is preety much average for the time of year, though much of central europe should now be white and stay white through the rest of the winter in an average winter.
