The Rolling Stones played their ever first gig on a Thursday night, 12 July, 1962, in London's Marquee Club.

Since then they have become one of the world's most popular and revered rock bands, whose A Bigger Bang Tour (2005-2007) earned $558m (£360m).

Was it Ken Dodd who said he'd wet Jagger's lips and stick him on the wall?

Good for them! Incredible to think that they were around before I was born ( just!), and Keith Richard said on teevee this morning that another world tour is in the offing. They never really did it for me with the exceptions of two great tracks - Gimme Shelter and Let It Bleed , the former being utterly unrivalled in it's groove and tight yet loose sound - and that spidery guitar intro is sublime.
