post-3098-0-61125800-1340273181_thumb.jp

Issued at - 21 Jun 2012, 10:41

Valid from - 21 Jun 2012, 15:00

Valid to - 21 Jun 2012, 23:59

Heavy, thundery showers on Wednesday afternoon and evening could give torrential downpours. The public are advised to be aware of the risk of flash flooding.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/links.html

My office is not in the zone. Home is - could be an interesting drive back later!

AS

EDIT: just noted that the warning says Wednesday though the date is 21st - it must be today's warning though.

Sun trying to poke through here. Bit of a breeze sprung up as well. Still quite humid though. Gone up to 71% chance of t storms here now.

Can anyone recommend a book about learning to read weather charts like those books for dummies. I'd really love to have some basic knowledge so's I know what to look for etc- and know what you guys are on about. It's so frustrating not being able to read charts. :D

Seems to be brightening up outside, really hope the sun can come out soon so some convection can kick off :).

Time to start radar watching...

Looks like an intense batch of thunderstorms moving out of northern France towards the weather warning zone...

Are these going to hit the south-east corner (kent/sussex) are will it push up into surrey/south-london as well?

Doesnt look like hitting London or Surrey, all the action is too far East.

A few bits of blue sky appearing now. Very impressive storms in Northern France at the minute which should push north and some showers building in Cambridgeshire too, one over Cambridge at 13:30 looks pretty heavy but no T/L.

Edit: Think the French storms will miss most of SE/EA but Canterbury looks in for a pounding.

They are moving NNE, but seem to be turning towards the north.

Pretty intense rain, as well as lightning.

I suppose they could also run out of steam too, but definitely worth watching.

Yeah I think they will hit mainly East kent NE onwards. I'm hoping they'll turn due North though and hit here! haha!

Agreed, just a Kent Clipper.

Got my eye on homegrown stuff this afternoon rather than imports :)

i am watching this feature just under cornwall at present

http://www.eldoradoc...-satellite.html

look in the atlanticsmile.png

I'm guessing that the Cornwall feature implies very heavy rain tonight. It looks like a secondary low?
