A distant rumble of thunder in Cleadon, the first of the year.

If the storm reaches Cleadon chances are my view of it will be heavily obscured by low cloud spilling in off the North Sea- not sure if Jarrow will be much different on that front!

Theres a nice patch of clear sky right above my house haha, i can see all of the low cloud near the coast though.. and can see dark clouds to the South West

Predictably, looks like it's losing a fair amount of potency as it approaches Tyne and Wear- about 20-30 mins of moderate rain perhaps?

Had a small storm here about an hour ago. Nothing more than a brief heavy shower and a couple of rumbles of thunder. Just started raining again as I am typing this.

Great shape on that cell west of Brighton now!

yes, lovely shape, and looks quite well organized with ppn fanning out ahead and strong core an indication of some decent shear...defo for areas to the NE of this, it's worth monitoring

another area worth keeping an eye on for potential is that bowing arc of ppn currenty to the SW of Hereford...it's moving north eastwards and also moving into an area which looks to have much more favourable parameters for storm development

Some very intense rain and a teeny bit of hail went through. Which was nice rolleyes.gif

very interesting radar signature over your location at 1530....looks reminiscent of a hook echo, was their any signs of rotation in the clouds?

same old, same old in the West Midlands...we breed them, the east gets them......getting to sound like an old broken record....lol.......line after line of showers fire up and as soon as they pass the west midlands they explode into life and start flashing & banging

It's really not surprising anymore is it. Whether the wind is from the south, southwest, west, northwest, north etc etc it makes little difference- the eastern half always gets the storms.

Not that I noticed AJ, bit of dangly scud (technical term) and that was about it.

Apart from a brief downpour first thing this morning, it's looking like another thoroughly disappointing day convection-wise around here.

That seems to have happened a lot here too. Showers seem to explode into life about 10 miles after they pass through Nottingham then slam areas north east of here with thunderstorms. Feel like that's happened at least 5 times this year already, including today.

Probably going to happen with the next shower approaching here now, it's very black to the south again.

At least I'm getting heavy showers here today though, which is better than nothing.

Now this more persistent rain is moving into the NW, has that dampened the NW England's chances today?

things are certainly starting to fire near and along the south coast....The cell that came ashore near Brighton is now just to the east of Crawley and looks to be intensifying.....Nice looking sheared cell has fired just to the south of Eastleigh, Southampton...and cells are trying to fire to the SW of Chichester & to the west of Eastbourne

Looks that way. Why couldn't the more organised mess have stayed out west? Full cloud cover and light rain here.

Indeed, just continuous moderate rain in Cleadon- about as pitiful a Met Office thunder-day (one distant rumble) as it gets really!
