Rain, accompanied by a strong to gale force westerly wind, is expected to turn increasingly heavy and persistent during Friday across some western parts of Wales. The public should be aware of large amounts of surface spray on roads and some areas of minor flooding.

West or southwesterly gales are likely to affect many parts of south Wales and the southern half of England during Friday. The public should be aware that damage to trees is likely and that disruption to travel and outdoor activities could also occur. The gales are also likely to be accompanied by some heavy rain. Winds should gradually ease from the southwest during the day. Gusts will be around 50mph to 60mph with 70mph possible on exposed coasts

Southwesterly gales are likely to develop across much of southwest England during Thursday and extend into parts

of south Wales on Thursday evening. The public should be prepared for disruption to travel and outdoor activities.

Damage is also likely to some trees. The gales are also likely to be accompanied by heavy rain.

Further heavy rain will affect parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, north Wales and southwest Scotland during the rest of Friday, with some slow moving heavy downpours likely to develop over more southern parts of Scotland. There remains concern that some of the more populated parts northwest England could well experience some exceptionally wet conditions on Friday with winds gusting to over 50 MPH. The public should be prepared for the risk of flooding.

Heavy and persistent rain is likely to extend north and west across many eastern, central and some northern parts of England, along with much of Wales on Friday. Some of this heavier rain may clip the southeastern corner of Northern Ireland, where conditions are especially saturated. Note that the updated Amber area has been extended further west across Wales in recognition of latest ideas.

The public should be prepared for the possibility of surface water flooding, particularly within the Amber area, where there is an increasing likelihood of river flooding, disruption to travel and outdoor activities. The rain across central England, East Anglia and southeast England should ease later in the day.

Further heavy showers or longer periods of rain are expected during Saturday. Although not all places will see the heaviest of the rain, where it does fall it is likely to lead to surface water flooding and some disruption to travel. There remains some uncertainty in the location of the heaviest rainfall, but at this time the southwest of England looks the most likely area to see the greatest impacts, in particular, the red warning area.

The public should be prepared for the likelihood of surface water flooding and some disruption to travel and outdoor activities, particularly in the Amber warning area.

Prolonged periods of heavy rain are likely to occur across parts of northeast England and southeast Scotland during Monday. In addition to the heavy rain winds will increase to gale force, with gusts to severe gale force, particularly over high ground. The public should be prepared for an increased risk of both surface water and river flooding during this period. Flooding issues may be exacerbated in places by drainage impeded by debris, for example leaves and small branches blown from trees.

Areas under the amber alert can expect to see 30mm to 50mm of rain with 60mm to 80mm possible in places

Widespread yellow warnings are in force for most of southern UK for 36 hours from Thursday evening until Saturday morning

There is the potential for periods of heavy rain across much of the southern half of the UK during the 36 hours from Thursday evening until Saturday morning. However there is considerable uncertainty in the northward extent of this heavy rain and the area covered by the Alert is likely to be adjusted as the event approaches. The public should be aware of the possibility of disruption to travel due to localised flooding.
