A few 16Cs popping up already across East Anglia looking at the 1100 obs.

Pleasantly sunny and vaguely warm in south London.

More like May temperatures than April really. No complaints here :clapping:

18C here. Thought it was an error! Very likely the best February day I've experienced (in England that is).

*checks out new home* Mmmmm, not bad in here....could do with a throw and a few fluffy cushions though :D

Maximum temperature was 15.3c here today, very spring like indeed...

..it would be nice if it lasted really, although I'm slightly concerned about the water shortage situation

Very little rainfall over the next couple of weeks according to this:

Not looking good at all unfortunately for the water situation!

I just tried the London and southeast thread and was locked out, I felt violated! Well New home then, very nice...anyway its not very warm out there today compared to yesterday, sun desperate to break through but cloud winning so far. Let's see if winter has a sting in its tail! Never mind the charts and trends I saw plenty of sea gulls today so must be going to get cold!

Amazing day for Feb, very likely the warmest Feb day ever here I'd imagine...

Indeed it is more like May!

Very much KW. Ironically feb and march 1976 started on these sort of temps.....and then carried on right through more or less to summer and july and august.......PHEW SCORCHIO. However i hope we all see a decent summer this year as for last summer well BOOOOOOOO. I got more heat of my monitor.

It would be great to have a decent summer, but do we really want another '76 ?

[The record-breaking summer of 1976.

There had been earlier hot spells in early-May and early-June when the temperature reached 30C, but they were short-lived and separated by lengthy cooler intervals. However from June 22 until August 26, a period of nine weeks, the weather was consistently dry, sunny and hot. The summer of 1976 marked the culmination of a prolonged drought which had begun in April 1975.

By April 1976 the drought had become very serious, not only for the water-supply industry but also for agriculture. The topsoil in East Anglia had turned to dust and was being systematically eroded by stiff easterly winds, and farmers warned of poor yields unless the rains came soon, they didn't. A Drought Bill was rushed through Parliament, water consumption was restricted as reservoirs dried out, the parched countryside turned from green to brown and from brown to white as the last vestiges of moisture disappeared, and there were extensive heath and woodland fires in southern England.

The centrepiece of the summer, meteorologically speaking, was a truly unprecedented heat wave which lasted from June 22 to July 16, a period of 25 consecutive days on each of which the temperature climbed to 27C or more (the 80s F) somewhere of other in the UK. Even more remarkable, the temperature reached 32C (the 90s F) on every one of the 15 successive days from June 23 to July 7 inclusive.]

LBC Radio broadcast from August 1976 including the news about the contemporary drought. Preceded by a very cheesy Brent Cross advert.

I'll take john pike's cold charts if you don't mind! I like the weather warm in summer but not above 20c, I remember summers where it was too hot to sleep and I now have 2kids under 4 and have had enough of the sleep depravation that comes with kids, to do it all in balmy overnight temps, no thanks! Lol

I do remember being dragged across the road as a kid whilst my mum filled up every container she could at standpipes and all having the tiniest bath possible in the same water, one after the other I must add! Pity my dad who was always last!

More snow and cold please!

ensembles from 18z gfs show temperatures back to average around 4th onwards

some pretty cold ensembles

we had a cold 06z in fi a cold 12z in fi and now the 18z

are we seeing gfs pick up an early pattern change.

i reckon the azores high will be a long way south after

next week and colder air will come back.

probably wont see it again until next winter :(
