Just went to a small town about 5 miles away to get diesel, was surprised to see a few flakes of snow in the air...very light though. Temperature now up to -4.3C

Interestingly I was just looking at the Met 5 day forecast for my location which does indeed show snow for Friday ( and a look at the regional forecast shows the same for most locations too). One to watch for sure!

Here's chart from the GFS 18z which supports this scenario;

Just as I thought I might get a week of decent sleep....no such chance if that continues showing. Early morning model check by 7, with of course the late night checks taking up until about midnight

Do you ever wonder/remember what it must be like to be surprised by the weather that occurs rather than following its every move....must be far less stressful

But that GFS 18z starts to show where that 20% signal for 10-20cms from UKMO comes from..

I often think that… trying to remember the feeling when you woke up to snow as a kid. Perhaps we're a little obsessed, but it's really interesting so I don't think I'll go back to blissful ignorance.

Just got back from Manton (near Rutland Water) - and car was reading -8 in the car park perfectly clear moonlit sky, and got down to -9 on way back near North Luffenham - it was -5.2 here in Peterborough earlier - when clear, now cloudy its -3.8 and getting warmer. The clouds started to appear about Wansford area when returning via A47.

Looks like the official min temp for Peterborough was -7C prior to the cloud cover. I reckon we would of easily reached -10C.

and it's still there.... and only 54 hrs away (-:

From what I can understand in the MOD thread....? the model interpretation is quite messy at the mo (what is the acronym 'WAA'? - it's really bugging me)

so well worth listening to the forecasts this week... and maybe around the valentines time for snow... and as you say "you never know" (-;

edit got it: WAA: Warm Air Advection - the advection (movement) of warm air into a region.

bbc just said looking at a band coming from north on friday,however they seem to be hinting at central areas mainly with falls of up to 20 cms!

Have to keep an eye on it,as they still unsure of exact areas and times.

I don't have a clue re Friday but WAA is I think Warm Air Advection and basically referes to low pressure systems heading north off the US East seaboard taking warm air up in to the artic rather than as normally happens heading west towards the UK. (I think the way it is then supposed to work is that displaced cold artic air then comes south somewhere else...like for example over the UK)

Morning everyone,

Not such a cold night as expected temperatures increased here during the night as the clear sky clouded over;

Temperature -1.3 °C

Windchill -1 °C

Dew Point -4 °C

Still got some patchy snow left in places – it’s waiting for some more!

Latest NAE indicates some snow for our region;
