Posted this in the SE Regional Thread, but thought I would pop it in here as a member of the 'South East' who did indeed get snow from Saturday night's event, and went to bed all happy at midnight, only to be greeted by a thaw on Sunday morning and only just enough time for snowballs and a quick walk in the woods with son and dog before the slush and drips took over! Son made me promise that next time it snows in the evening, we do all our snowball playing then, just in case it's gone in the morning 'like today'!

This morning I found out what a difference 15 miles makes! Left the cloudy and snowless streets of Surbiton for the school and work run at 7.30am. Passed varying levels of slushy pavements through Teddington, Hampton and onwards up to Heathrow. Driving through Heathrow at 9 (HUGE traffic jam on route!), the pavements had a decent covering compared with the earlier slush, and the runways were clearly edged with snow blanketed by sufficient fog to stop us seeing the planes coming into land or taking off as we passed by on the perimeter road that had very black snow on the kerbs and in the centre. As we went north of Heathrow towards Hillingdon, the snow became much thicker on the ground and the fog continued apace - pavements were full of snow with some piled up along the edges of the main roads, albeit most side roads were clear. Son was very displeased to have missed a 'snow day' thinking if we had had this amount of snow in Surbiton then mum might just have phoned school to say we weren't coming in! Onwards to work at Uxbridge, and a snowy car park greeted me for me to slither into a parking space - no idea if I am in an actual 'space' as snow covered everything, and just hope no one parks near me so I don't whack them as I gear up for the return journey... might hope the temperature goes up a bit :winky:

Some snow potential for the next 24hours, an extra cm or 2 possible for the most favoured spots possibly. Looking further ahead we desperately need some form of undercutting of the high. Lets hope the models show some improvements to go alongside the met o update

Overcast all day with mist in the morning and occasional light drizzle, and feeling somewhat milder than the past few days. The snow from Saturday night has almost gone from most areas, although the coverage in our garden is still around 50%. Maximum 4.2, minimum 0.2. Wind calm.

A cloudy and, at times, foggy morning with one or two very light rain showers at first. The cloud persisted into the afternoon but any showers died out by 1100. By 1500 the cloud was thinning and it suddenly cleared around 1530 to allow some late sunshine.

A slow thaw of lying snow throughout the day but a ground frost developed after about 1700 and any thawing stopped.
