Lack of posts today suggests little hope of snow tomorrow - just freezing rain. I'm positive the far north of england will see synoptics much more favourable for snow later in the month once the northerly/northeasterly establishes itself.

Must say I'd rather it was just simple plain rain - freezing rain is a kick in the teeth it has to be said.

Not to mention an absolute nightmare to drive and get around in.

Really pinning cold/snow hopes on something from the NE next week.

Amber warning now from the met about freezing rain for tomorrow.

Issued at - 08 Feb 2012, 22:26

Valid from - 09 Feb 2012, 05:00

Valid to - 09 Feb 2012, 12:00

Rain will move southeastwards from Scotland into England early on Thursday. This will fall onto very cold surfaces, such as roads, and will freeze instantly, forming a layer of ice. The public should be prepared for extremely hazardous driving conditions, particularly on routes over high ground and where roads are untreated.

Its actually interesting watching the BBC Video on the Freezing Rain yet it also confused me as Nick Miller states that snow can form at high up in the clouds and he said the upper air profile/temperature at or below freezing which was the case on Saturday so how come around here, we saw Freezing rain/ice pellets despite the upper air temps being around -2?

This time around, the upper air temperatures look milder still so it might just be consistantly rain and not even a hint of sleet!

On a side note, still got some reminisants of Saturday evening's event in our garden and very patchy in shaded bits in the streets, lasted a bit longer than I thought in all fairness although ice is more resistant to higher temperatures I suppose. Shame it was not a proper snow cover though.

YOu know, I think we may get some snow from Durham S tomorrow evening (from 6pm), as the 0°C isetherm pushing back in from the SE of our region.

-2.2º and heavy rain/ That was an interesting drive into work this morning. The roads in Appleby aren't too bad (until the salt washes through) but the road from the village was dreadful. I've for a 4x4 with winter tyres, and on the downhill stretches, the car simply would not stop...it just carried on sliding.

4x4s aren't much better on sheets of ice, winter tyres help a bit but you can't expect miracles.

Radar suggests it should be raining lightly here but only a vague damp feel in the air so far.

It is still nicely below freezing and ground is like iron.

Yeah, I was merely indicating I wasn't in a Fiesta with bald budget tyres on. It is enjoyable seeing the offensively huge Audis and BMWs struggling this morning.

Roads are horrendous, and the pavements are like skating rinks. Its just rain falling here but temp still a little below 0 so its creating nasty slippy surfaces.

My Team play your team on saturday and the weather looks OK for now. It is frosty and if we get no more snow and freezing nights this game should be on.

Are you traverling up north for the game?

I'm not going up but some are.. I was asked on the AFCB message board if we were likely to be called off.

We'll lose up there, we got a poor record at Hartlepool in recent years!

Without turning this into a football thread lol Hopefully if it is called off we will give Bournemouth enough time to know as it’s a very long way to be called off last minute.

Well hope you do lose we have picked up of late but anything can happen. Good Luck.

As for the weather no rain or anything here yet....

What accumulations can we expect in Teesside? Thanks in advance.

Accumulations should be roughly 0cm.

The precipitation will have passed before turning to sleet or snow.

I seriously doubt it the system is pivoting and that stuff in the North Sea is heading straight for us. I reckon snow starting between 4pm and 6pm for Teesside and perhaps Durham

It doesn't look like it is pivoting to me? It looks just like the whole band of rain is sinking SE to me.
