Lets hope that this cold spell doesn't follow the usual Easterly set up, otherwise we could find ourselves looking on enviously at our East and SE cousins.

I hope it does... :p

Nothing better than a Wash streamer smashing into Northants..

6 inches of snow fell from a similar set up 4 days before xmas 2010.

Bring it on.. :good:

Well if we see any battleground set ups developing parts of the west could get pasted, and if past experiences are anything to go by we could be measuring the depth in feet! Anything could happen over the next week with nothing at this stage 'nailed' on.

We missed out on the late november - early December snowfalls.

Reading the model thread I can see why some people get annoyed. Since when has 'showers in the SE and along the East coast been an all UK event' I haven't criticized before , but certain posters should really know better.

Now don't be opening that can of worms, too be fair posters like eye in the sky do try to be objective. Off course some just get a little carried away from an IMBY perspective.

Totally agree as there is so much uncertainty still, I still harbour horrid memories of Easterlies from the 80s, which give us nothing but grey drab sky's and occasional snow grains, though 78/79 was the perfect set up.

BACKTRACK IS BACK :D

2.0C with high cloud around.

12z was not an outlier, as it has support from 4 other model runs.

Very much game on, we're going to get pasted. Thank you and have a nice day. :D

i remember one Easterly, could have been 78/79 ( not sure, had many a sleep since then) do remember it was a Sunday :D it gave a good 6-8 inches of snow. obviously the higher areas such as Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale took the brunt of the weather that day.

So people in The North West should never rule out an Easterly.

Unfortunately all those from the 80s gave us pretty much zilch, apart from those in pennine areas. I've got a bad feeling about this for us North Westerners.

the bbc say most of the snow will be high ground, rain or sleet here IF it gets here, 0.6c here

For tomorrow maybe, but frontal snowfall is different to showers.

I'd say where the PPN is, it will snow. But it's whether it can make it this far East. The Russian block really is holding the warm front back.

Hello I live on just to the west of Bolton do I have much chance for snow? I'm not very good with models and have no clue!

Hey Chiffer, welcome.

It all depends on how far the precipitation comes East. Right now we're not so sure, but there may be a small period of light snow in your area some time tomorrow.

Thankyou and thanks for the quick reply! I've been watching the model output discussion for quite sometime, learning a little bit from that however it seems most members posting there aren't from the northwest and are more in the southern counties or to the east. That way the northwest never gets a mention so I've been waiting for the northwest regional to come back on. Fingers crossed this time but there's still 4 weeks left I guess :)

Yep, chiefly we don't get much of a mention in the model output discussion.

Also, February is traditionally the most wintry month, and March is usually more snowy than December. Plenty of time yet. :D

For a day out, and to get snowed in.

Just told my dad and he agreed to take us. I'll send in pics. :D
