We already had a faller in the village due to ice this morning, prompting G-HEMZ (Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance) to pay the school playing fields a visit. It was deemed the helicopter wasn't needed, but still shows just how dangerous underfoot it can be even this early on into a potential cold spell. Any falling snow in the coming days will be ontop of this same ice sheet meaning the walking boots are going to get their moneys worth again.

Temp has reached 2.7c here and continues to rise, hoping the warm front stays out west now as conditions aren't good for snow yet. I don't want rain.

Sky becoming overcast with upper and mid level clouds.

It should stall over Ireland before advancing any further, so we're good for now.

Cloud is thinning and breaking now with some nice blue skies appearing. Temp 3.5c and not a breath of wind.

Thick fog here now, temp 1.4c.

Is this high level cloud forecast to break up more? Might head up a hill later to catch the sunset, should be a good one above the fog and snowline.

Temp has reached 4.1c but it won't be long before they start to drop, just high cloud here making the sunshine hazy.

I see even St Bees head right on the extreme coast is still only around 3c. Quite a number of locations away from Cumbria have temps of 5-6 degrees and the odd 7c. The sooner the wind starts drawing off the near continent the better, this will occur later in the evening and overnight. :)

I do hope that front is forecast to pep up. It's looking very wimpy at the moment.

5.1C under late afternoon sunshine. Bliss. :D

To be honest, I can't really see much coming from this front other than light sleet and rain perhaps (if it even reaches us).

The BBC graphics show the front making it into NW England but only as rain whilst they have Wales and parts of the SW under snow :fool:

I'm hanging on to the knowledge that the MET are occasionally wrong :-)

I think it will be touch and go in terms of snow for the majority of low lying areas tommorow with probably a wintry mix of icy rain then turning to light sleet/perhaps wet snow anywhere inland later on in the day but with any considerable accumalations of snow developing roughly above 200m.

Depends on dewpoints. It's looking very marginal.

It will probably rain.

I know looks like a bit of a potential snowfest (touch wood) for us Northwesterners late week.

In terms of tommorow though it still is touch and go with any decent snowfall accumalations most likely IMO above 200m.

PPN is looking far too light an patchy to have any effect on the temperature via evaporative cooling.

It's going to take something special to turn this lot to snow as it reaches our region.

12z has scuppered our chances.
