Well peeps, Everything is very much to play for.Just been reading an twitter post by the Joe B. All in all reading between the lines he is very confident of a situation to that dec 2010,However it will be a longer spell and precip will be more moderate and wide spread,Also steve murr posted of a snow event for central and eastern england lasting around 9 to 12 hours. For the time being pay close attention to meto updates as they will change. The model thread is up and down,Purely because the models cant get to grips with intense and on-going pattern change. However i will state that im confident by this time next week we will have had SNOW or WHITE GOLD, if we have not then i will jump in the thames naked (once its defrosted)

first post in a while, but the 18Z is brilliant for this region next weekend. of course the far SE (as usual) will fair far better off, but we could be looking at some hefty snow by the end of the weekend. Lets wait and see first, plenty of time left.

Y'know if only we East Anglia people got extreme cold and everyone else had to suffer mild mush I'd be very happy, namely it'd feel right after all the snow they've had over the years while I've had to make do with sod-all. So bring on whatever synoptics get us -25 uppers and everyone else mild mush :p.

I don't want memories of December '10, it was depressing, all that cold and sod-all snow.

Typical. Just look at the rain radar now. Two streamer events going on (one in Kent and the other into East lincs) and East Anglia slap bang in the middle of no mans land between the two. How come we never get that kind of set up in this region??!

Not sure of the science of cloud formation to produce snow/rain but looking out east into the channel/north sea - clear air leaves europe and clouds are starting to develop approaching our shores from the east.. maybe some showers drifting in today?

Would love to know the details of what to look for regarding temps and dew points etc so as to hazard a guess as to what maybe coming our way in the very short term.

in the meantime its fun to watch in breaks from work (-:

Just had a bit of snow :)

Things not looking too good long term on the GFS 6z...carries on the trend of Atlantic winning out so far. The -10 uppers, which got across to the west coast of Irelnad on the magical 12z saturday run, not only just get past our region. I feel the lack of progress made by the really intense cold is what make the whole thing a bit weaker than was modelled for a time and hence susceptible.

Personally I'm not sure the breakdown, if it comes (fingers crossed it won't) will be as spectacular as some say. We could end up having a few really hard frosts, some bitter days and then wake up to gradually feel it turning milder after the weekend. Hope I'm wrong!

It is now a beautiful day here in Lowestoft. Blue skies and a few fluffy white clouds. The perfect winters day. I hope you all have a lovely last day of January.

I'm starting to get the feeling this is going to be a bit of a non-starter even in the East I will keep my fingers crossed but several models across several runs are now showing it to be v short lived with the "potential" for another easterly later on but....

Hope i'm wrong but I don't think we're going to see significant snow at least here anyway.

Well, unfortunately the reality is slowly hitting home. It looks as though the BBC were right all along in not getting excited about this cold snap. They said several days ago, that it would turn colder as each day went on, with night time frosts, but day times remaining mostly dry. We search the models in hope more than anything, hoping and dreaming of a snow-fest and ice-days, but lets get in the real world.! We dont live in Russia.

They are suggesting in the model output forums that there is a chance of a re-load to cold easterlies next week, but we shall have to wait and see. The cold air is firmly with us, and its producing fine snow grains at times rather than snow flakes. Looking to the west for an approaching weather front to come face to face with the cold air.....none there at the minute..!

Becoming quite breezy here in Lowestoft and much cloudier. Feels bitterly cold outside and I would not be at all surprised to see a few snowflakes falling soon. Looking out over the North Sea it looks quite dark and ominous.

Snowing lightly here, good signs of things to come!

Hopefully, I've had snizzle or light dandruff here on and off since last night :good:

... I'm just surprised how quiet it is in here considering the potential in this region for the next few days :unknw:
