Does anyone think it is safe enough to start telling friends and family yet without the worry of looking like a donut

Or do you think wait for the 12z

I normally do the old Rob Mc Elwee trick of saying something like ", just wait 'till next week" and then wink. Very non committal!

Edit- should add this is in reference to the weather, saying this to random women will get you punched!

Now, that's what I call a big ramp

By the way, Bulgaria has issued Code Red, the highest weather alert, for the entire country, including a ban on movement of heavy vehicles. Several major ports on the Black Sea were closed.

Could we be looking at similar extreme conditions very soon? Very possible :help: :help:

I've been telling people for ages the snow was coming ever since it was first hinted at about 2-3 weeks ago.

Of course, now nobody believes me but hey ho ;-)

A lady phoned in earlier saying that there is going to be an Ice Age. Don't worry there isn't

I have to say I love the enthusiasm here. I think we are all big kids at heart and this is like the approach of Christmas for us weather watchers !

While the winter so far has been good for fuel bills, its been interminably boring weather wise, apart from a couple of decent wind events. If this winter is about to deliver a sting in its tail we might as well all enjoy it. I can't wait to see Yamkin in full on ramp mode, I suspect he is just limbering up at the moment, wait till he really lets rip.

To people worrying about the apparent lack of snow - don't. Get the cold in place first and the snow will come. You have to remember that the Atlantic is going to have an attempt at breaking through the block at some point, and if it tries and fails then we could certainly have some fun and games. I've never really seen a true battleground situation so we must be overdue one.

Hi all, sorry to be a pain but this thread covers a huge area and I am not gonna ask you the painful question of will it snow over my house at exactly 4pm on Sunday, but all this excitement and ramping, does it include Essex?

Yes, quite likely. In fact as the easterly starts to bite and the flow heads towards the UK......

Wait for it......

For those of you wait for the cold & white stuff, there's another good omen that the Meto aren't aware of.

I'm off to Scotland for 3-4days, that'll bring on any colder weather down here and not up there.

So in my absence I hope it all falls in place for y'all

The SE looks like the best place to be next week as deep cold in nearby Europe touches us from time to time.

There will be a tough battle between the cold and mild, still not certain the cold will win, if the cold does win in the East, SE will we get any Snow? or be cold and dry?

There are a number of possibly snowy cold systems moving down from the North Sea heading all the way down as far south as Southern France/Northern Spain, i wouldn't be surprised if one of them did affect us as it heads down so it should be snowy rather than dry, I will be annoyed if it is a slack easterly i.e cold (but above 0C) dry and cloudy which seems like a waste but is what the MO suggest.

I dont believe its as "knife edge" as other point out considering we had blizzards here yesterday when it was just above freezing....

The problem we have is that the 850's are going to be clearly in favor for snow ( -5 even -8 at times possible ) but where we get the PPN from is going to be the question....

Upper air is cold, but not really cold enough for force any convection or even lake affect convection. The issue with easterlies is that they can be quite dry. So PPN may come in the form of lows / fronts moving in from the west and then being pushed back as cold fronts.

It does look like possibly we could get some string N/Esterlies and that could bring more in the way of PPN..

Hmm..
