Oooh, not this part of the region yet! Raining here! Still, interesting times ahead, from an IMBY point of view, another 60mile shift westwardsfrom the UKMO for Monday and I might be seeing my first snow of the season!

Yes it currently looks like west country could get of cold rain/sleet but with source of the cold dew points will be lower and maybe we wont need very low 850's?

Snowing hard and settling everywhere now - 2011/12 won't be my first snowless winter after all !!

it's very close, a short 50/75 mile shift westwards and we would be in business! Best to keep an eye on models!

I believe, from an Easterly, -3 850's might just be suffice! Interesting times ahead, even Ian Fergusson mentioned the S word in a earlier tweet!

At least we have potential with the 12z output, unlike the 0z ouput where we would of had no potential!

As this stand though, we do need a very slight shift westwards for any snow potential for the West Country!

It will be interesting to see what Ian F thinks on the forecast coming shortly. I remain positive with the way it all keeps moving west though.

Not at bad snow showe we had Lynxus. There is snow on show here, yes very slushy but a turn up for the plus 4's. Higher up would stay I would think based on temps progged for this evening.

The forcast still dosnt look good down here for any snow rain and sleet after sunday.getting cooler but not lasting or as cold as forcast at first.

considering the models haven't a clue as to what will happen in the short term i'm curious how anyone can make a statement like that about the longer term.

Well guys, something which wasn't expected!

The rain turned to sleet here and then onto a snowy/sleety mix. Snowflakes covered the car and we had a slushy covering shortly after. Temperature nose dived as the rain began being at 4.6c @ 7:25pm and by 7:50pm it was 2.2c.

Better than nothing!

Regards, Mark

Unsurprisingly the shower that just came up the Channel was rain - temp had dropped to 3.7c but increased back to 5.5c during the shower

Don't worry, there's always winter 2012 & 2013, who says 13 is unlucky?

Ahhh...being at uni has its downsides...

I'm amazed to hear of snow in Cheltenham today! I just saw a Facebook status about people struggling to get up Cleeve Hill in the snow and did a double take. Very localised.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
