That day was the hottest of the year here with a max' of 26.8c; one of the rather rare days when we exceeded 26.7c ( the old 80f).

It was a pretty hot day in the Tyne and Wear area too, with a slight south-westerly breeze fending off the usual sea breezes, 26.5C at Cleadon. The day started with clear skies and sunshine then patchy cumulus developed during the afternoon. I didn't notice any thunder that evening at Cleadon but there was some reported further inland, e.g. Newcastle. I remember a rather sultry feel and the forecast was right to mention poor air quality- skies were very hazy with an orangey hue near the horizon, similar to the hazy spell during the third week of April 2011. This hot interlude also marked a change from mostly cloudy humid weather earlier in the month, to frequent hot sunny weather.
