Not manys statistics but what amazes me the most is the following for Heathrow Airport

June 27th 2011 - 31.2C

October 1st 2011 - 28.8C

Most Consecutive days above 25*C = September 26th - 3rd October (above 20*C 10 days Sept 24th 2011-3rd Oct 2011) - Summer only had 2 days above 25*C! Autumn had 10! LOL

Ended up with a mean temperature of 9.0º, making it the joint second warmest year with 2006, and beaten only by 2007. Massive increase on last year's 6.7º.

1331.2mm of rain fell, with the wettest month being February (204mm) and the driest being March (49.2mm).

Australia had a marginally cooler than average year (-0.1 below average ) making it the first negative anomoly year since 2001 and only the third negative anomoly year since 1985.

It was down to a very active La Nina year with a more intense and prolonged monsoon season, supressing temperatures markedly in tropical, the subtropical east and desert Australia. The southern half of Australia however, was milder than average, and SW Western Australia had record warmth.

The annual rainfall from a widespread network of rainfall site observations was the 3rd highest on record ( since 1900 ). It was back to back wet years for Australia.

An air-frost free year? Yikes, and I thought Scotland was cold.

Here is a chart for anomaly ( reference 1971-2000) for Paris Montsouris as usual all stats before 1950 are to be taken with care. But then it gives a very stunning chart.

We are at a 1.9c anomaly for Paris- Montsouris Station for 2011.:

2011 was the warmest year here since local records began in 1963, fractionally warmer than 2006 due to a higher mean max'.

It was the driest year since 1991 and 2010 and 2011 have been the driest consecutive years since 1995/96.

But for the wet December it would have been the driest year since 1975 and this was the case in the local valleys.

December also rescued the snowfall statistics. Up to the end of November it was the least snowy year on record but the frequent light snowfalls in December meant that 1992, 2002 and 2007 all had fewer mornings with lying snow and 2002 and 2007 had fewer days with snow or sleet falling.

Only 1997, 2002 and 2007 had fewer air frosts

It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
