I was woken by heavy rain at 03.45 and thought it must be the Cold Front, reviewing the radar showed a very narrow squall line along the front and the rain would have lasted 15 minutes max!

The day dawned largely clear with some back edge Cirrus providing a colourful sunrise and the sun has shone unbroken so far. There are some small Cumulus and Altocumulus patches, a brisk Westerly breeze and it's 9.3c at the moment.

Seems a more organised band of cloud across much of northern england and scotland currently before the heavier precip based isolated clouds (which give the traditional sunshine and showers scenario).

Well that band should give us slate grey skies until at least midday before the real Pm airmass type weather arrives, heavier deeper clouds in W Scotland and lesser more sun-based for much of N England.

Anyway this cloud-band is delivering some rather interesting weather. 5c and heavy rain/hail showers, temperature was 7c under the earlier partly cloudy skies at 10am.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
