I was wondering, when is the earliest and latest dates snow can fall and lie at sea level, and when snow is most prominent (which month)?

This could also be a broad topic on snow averages and snowfall in the UK, but I have a few questions first-

which date/month is the latest that your location has ever received?

which date/month on average has the last snowfall?

which date/month is the earliest that your location has ever received?

which date/month on average has the first snowfall?

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow lying?

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow falling?

which month is your snowiest (lying and falling, and depth) in your records?

Thanks, hope it gets you in the snowy mood! :p

(From memory).

which date/month is the latest that your location has ever received? May

which date/month on average has the last snowfall? March

which date/month is the earliest that your location has ever received? October. I particularly liked the one which occured during October 28th 2008. Seeing the rain drops gradually becoming replaced by large snowflakes made me become increasingly more estastic. :')

which date/month on average has the first snowfall? December usually, and occasionaly November.

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow lying? Probably December.

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow falling? December and February. Apart from 2010, January doesn't seem to have delivered much in the way of snow here in recent years.

which month is your snowiest (lying and falling, and depth) in your records? I think probably December 2010.

Xtra information:The biggest snowflake I've ever seen was probably about 4.5cm in diameter, and my favourite snowfall was probably the one which occured during 9th February 2007, where for about an hour or so, there was fairly dense moderate to heavy steady snowfall. I also really liked the one which occured during December 18th 2010. :')

I would guess the Isles of Scilly as both the least frequent days with snow/lying and depth but I have no data to prove it.

Try Googling for that IS?

I'll answer for where I grew up, in Cumbria, because I havn't been here that long:

which date/month is the latest that your location has ever received? May - quite deep but melted from even the highest fells by 11am. Seen fresh and old snow on fells in June.

which date/month on average has the last snowfall? March, but April isn't rare

which date/month is the earliest that your location has ever received? October

which date/month on average has the first snowfall? December

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow lying? December/February, would have been February before last 2 years.

which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow falling? February, December snow tends to come in one fall and then hang around for a long time.

which month is your snowiest (lying and falling, and depth) in your records? Don't keep any, but it would be December because of the last few years.

Which area(s) see the least snow on the UK mainland? Southern Cornwall, Devon, Dorset?

I can tell you, for last winter, for the mainland, we must have been contenders in our part of Northamptonshire. At the most, only about 3.5 cm of lying snow at any time.

Least snowy place in the UK has to be the Scilly Isles. The deepest snow ever recorded there was 23 cm's which is absolutely feeble!

Why does it matter if it's mainland or not?

Anyway it's probably Penzance, the southernmost town on the mainland.

yeah, good old winters, 29th Dec 1908 looks like a classic battleground setup, uppers were nearly -20C in NE areas, can imagine that being snowy, didnt last long as atlantic broke through on 31st and mild for all
