Because he lives near a forest.... which I don't see why that would be lowering his temperature. I would of thought, if anything obstruction such as trees would not help the temperature fall, and that the soggy ground would have been the killer for any chances of frost on a night like this.

It's only 7:47pm, there,s plenty of time for darkness and temperature don't usually reach their minimum until before sunset.

2.6C now air frost is 100% guaranteed. I actually think with a lack of wind tonight it could go down to maybe -3 or -4C here, that would be up there with the all time lowest temperatures for November. Definitely in the last two years here the extent of the frost is unparalleled.

Also freezing fog is possibility, again something we dont see here often.

It's actually quite bizarre because being on a hill we generally shouldn't see these falls especially with such a mild airmass. We don't usually either.

A hilltop that acts like a frost hollow is very unusual, but here it seems that's what happens, and being by the coast with this happening is astonishing.

You're probably right in the inversion, hence why you're 5C lower than me. ;l

most likely, and it won't stop falling until dawn if the level stays as it is, and given it is stable I dont see why not.

It happened last December too.

2.3C now.

The record here in November is -4.6C that's under threat tonight if things stays as they are (going)

In Runcorn, our minimum temperature doesn't have any rules. :p

6.6C now, quite a fast fall.

A river? Oh wow, that's another warming factor if anything........

It's definitely the coldest evening of the autumn so far. I've had to put one of those snake draught excluders by the front door.

I thought the river would cool it all. It's 1 mile away from here and 7m asl (I'm at 50m asl), so it's a bit of a valley effect.

No, water will only help warm the air.

River valleys are often several degrees colder than adjacent slopes even just 20 metres or so above.

1.4c, perhaps falling at about 0.1c/15mins. Good enough for me, but hopefully it'll speed up soon :)

Lowest temperature of the autumn was 1.3c (0718, 20th October) here at Picktree, should be beaten.

River valleys are often several degrees colder than adjacent slopes even just 20 metres or so above.

For chrimbo I'm getting a new ws and putting a sensor on a tree nearby, at about 9m asl on the edge of the river. Nice little frost hollow, saved up a bit to get a new ws for it.

Exactly, and he lives above the river line by 40m.

His location doesn't abide by the laws of physics! Lol!

2.0C after a slow down it's speeding back up.

by 10pm we should be comfortably below 0C

I don't think slope gradients will matter much in this instance. I do think this is a night where your climate will show it's 'true colours' or it's default setting.

Yeah, but I am generally loved by my sensor, so I expect nights like this...
