Frost Watch / November 6 And 7

Quite an early topic but temperatures will begin to drop soon and a widespread air frost is predicted for Northern England. Due of course to a displaced hp cell that ridged and separated from the subtropical ridge recently.

Many had their first ground frost and air frost in October and some infact did yesterday, but today's chances are more clear cut, and temperatures should peak out in the next hour or so. Currently 10c here, the daily high.

Discuss yours and others chances of a frosty evening and dawn tomorrow.

NW Extra's hi-res NMM says widespread, but light across Wales, northern England and southern Scotland, but air frosts much less likely.post-12276-0-05145600-1320583562_thumb.p

Less optimistic now I guess.

Met office say hard frost for southern Scotland, touch and go elsewhere.

Got down to 1.1c at Durham and about 2c at Durham uni this morning, and conditions are only just slightly better tonight (similar maxima, warmer uppers but of course inversion cold as the hp cell sits on top of us).

I know this is the UK and all, but it's November. We really shouldn't be needing a topic for this.

But since we're stuck in a horrid pattern with the Euro High giving us horrible Southerly winds, it's looking like frost will be a premium this month.

Well, I'm not expecting a frost, but we shall see.

Was -3.0c air temp here last night (min at 6.41), but this a big frost hollow. The heaviest frost of the season so far with pretty much all surfaces white, and didn't melt in the shade until about 10.30-11ish.

Meto forecast shows cloud reaching here by this evening though so unlikely to be as cold tonight. If the cloud stays away though then it could fall even lower than last night.

Shows how awful this Autumn has been so far that this topic has even surfaced!

Maybe bt- but I can't see another widespread frost opportunity like this for a couple of weeks or more personally.

That's what I've just said. This month could of one of the most frostless November's on record.

0.5 c was the lowest last night, might even dip below this tonight. Currently 9.4c.

What a rubbish Autumn for frost/cold, the last few days and night have been stunning with a proper Autumn chill.... now I want more!! next week looks stupidly mild for the time of year, someone change the record as it's well and truly broken! :help:

At this rate I will be continuing biking to and from lectures in a t-shirt in December...I've only had to wear a fleece one morning so far this Autumn.

I reckon I have hit the zenith here today, 10.9c at 14:30. Now 9.9 after a low of -0.1c at 7:15 this morning. No sign of cloud building on Sat24, so I expect the temp to tumble over the next 3-4 hours.

Still sparkling clear. Not a cloud and the lightest of breezes all day. MO still going for -1c here but I cannot for the life of me see that. Temperature is falling though, albeit slowly- 8.5c.

7.1c now. Same conditions but now slightly darker- just a touch. This time next hour it'll be pitch black and temperatures will be notably more stable. Imo for an air frost I need to be at about 4c or under at 9pm, about 5c or under at 730pm.
