Mark mate, do you think you could get a ground frost tonight? GFS seems to think it's quite possible. Are you are on a hill, in a valley etc.? :)

May get ground frost ( prob first sub zero wind chill!) but location is a 400ft above valley floor so temp usually quickly drops early on then stablizes as cold air settles in valley bottom. 7mph breeze from NW.

AWS at Forest in Teesdale a couple of miles away is close to valley floor and was down to 6.8C at 8pm. That's a road side AWS so thermometer will be not 1.2m closer to 3m prob.

Ah right, interesting location. The valley floor is a definite for a ground frost, yes? Also, where is this Forest AWS? smile.png

As in where is the link to it, not where Forest-in-Teesdale is. Middleton is at 6.9C at 8:25pm also :)

Could get a ground frost even here, if wind drops enough its still gusting 20 mph at present.

Forest In Teesdale AWS. It's where the deepest recorded lying snow in the UK at an inhabited location was recorded just few hundreds away in 1947.

Yeah - I remember being in the hysteria of the snow and buying a County Durham A-Z atlas in December at a petrol stop with me pa, and looking in it thinking about how much snow there must be in Teesdale and Weardale each winter without fail, at least at the tops. Of course as you've said last winter was relatively disappointing, but dreams of a N'ly airflow and blizzards around your parts can't go amiss around this time of year!

Thanks alot mate, remember that off winter smile.png

10.4C and dropping off here, albeit slowly. I'm predicting 5C low here smile.png

EDIT: Already down to 5C at Forest, but yeah, it does look like quite a high AWS, about 2.5/3m.

Well, the weather has been fantastic since Monday afternoon here. After the rain swept through on Monday morning, it led to clear blue skies by the evening. Both Tuesday and today have started off with clear blue skies, with a small build up of the cloud (though the weak front has bought more cloud cover late this afternoon). Also the wind has dropped from the gusts on Monday to a very gentle breeze today .The temperature to me has been perfect for early Autumn, not too warm but pleasantly warm in the abundant sunshine. Nights have gradually got cooler too, to around average from the exceptionally mild nights we had only last week. The next two days look largely fine too. Overnight minima for this week:

Mondays' min: 16.4C

Tuesdays' min: 11.4C

Todays' min: 8.4C

Could get down to around 7C tonight maybe providing the cloud clears. Certainly not too low compared to other areas of England such as NE England, but there is certainly a feel of early Autumn now. smile.png

The clouds are now clearing fast after a small area of PPN moved south. Temperatures should start falling fast now with a light wind.

Fine sunny day with very early sprinkling. This evening the sky was clear of clouds for the first time in weeks if not months. Great clear vistas across the moors this evening but with a chill in the air.

Why couldn't we have had a weather system like this in July or August???? unknw.gif

Dropping quickly here and already down to 5.6C.

According to my records, the earliest air frost I've recorded was September 18th (2007), so you never know.....

Yes temps are dropping here as well, not sure what they are but probably close to the 6 degree mark, suspect a finishing mark near to 3 degrees, just missing out on a ground frost, will wait and see.
