Morning!

Two nice new patches, one to the far north of Siberia and the other to the far northeast of Siberia.

I can almost feel the 'beast' being born :D

Oh and don't worry about anyone else posting the days picture, the thread is open to everyone and I won't be annoyed if for some reason I'm unable to post early that day.

My usual time to post is at between 7am and 7.45am each day.

Nooooooooo....

It would spoil all the fun; I for one love the added anticipation that a delayed post delivers.

All hail the new king!

We are not worthy!

Brilliant live video link of Akureyri, Iceland's second largest city - cool -5C uppers are expected to reach here, in Northern Iceland, by evening, hopefully you'll see them raindrops turn to snow overnight and see a light dusting tomorrow morning.

Thank you for that link... Looking at it right now it looks like it's turning a little sleety.

Good spot! I've been checking the Icelandic meteorological service today, and it's all quite marginal, but as the evening goes on it should be a snowfest.

Spending my September days observing sleet in North East Iceland - I regret nothing!

I don't regret it either! It's good fun to keep track of where it is snowing and watching as the cold grows ever closer to us over the coming weeks. :)

That's the whole reason I started this thread, for all of us snow starved folk who can just sit back and dream of the sledges being dusted off as the first snows fall on Siberia and imagine it's us that will be sledging over the frozen wastes, with the northern lights illuminating the way..........................*sighs*

3.2C at Akureyri currently, where that webvideo is situated, the town is at only 23m asl, the average temperatures in early September range from 6C lows to 12C highs, so snow is as likely as snow in say Newcastle or Hull in mid-October, definitely quite rare.

http://www.vegagerdin.is/umferd-og-faerd/vefmyndavelar/nordurland Perfect site to complement the video, Icelandic road cams. Third one from the top is plastered in snow!

Only 2.7C now at Akureyri - down 0.4C since an hour ago. However, much of Central Highlands and North East Iceland is trailing around -2C to 1C with snowfall. Precipitation hanging around the area but leaving through the night, so if any snow is to occur at Akureyri, it must happen soon, however, the sun is now setting on the northern coast.

if we could see the North Sea freezing... Then maybe we would see the white stuff creeping ever closer, at an earlier date. I wonder if that ever happened during the little ice age.

Of course not.

Hope you don't mind, but for those watching the Icelandic weather, you may find this link useful. Some snow showing already on the webcams in the North.

Yeah! I was watching that last night and lost the link this morning - favourited. Thanks :)

And yes, aaron, the rainfall/snowfall that hit North Iceland has now moved towards North East Iceland, and should stay for a day or two skirting the east coast, at times penetrating inland - to give wintriness and sleet with drizzle on the coast and snowier outbreaks inland.

Morning all! Just got up after a nice lie in on my day orf.

Well as you can see, we've had rather a few new patches appear overnight.

Nice to see one in Mongolia.

Is this not the same as yesterday's picture? haha

Anyway, would you say the current snow and ice extent is compared to the average? It looks to me like there's a bit more than there was this time last year, but I don't know how that is compared to the average.
