Reports & Pictures Chase Day 38

Recommended Posts

With one eye on tomorrow in North Dakota and what I feel will be the better risk stayed close to the South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana borders today for what we hoped would be Supercells with Very large Hail in the 6,000jkg of Cape, what transpired was once again very different in this wierd year for storm initiation. Storms pulsed up and down and never got above a Uk severe T-Storm but we made the best of what we could and got some pretty pictures.

Intercepted the three tornado warned storms West of Billings, MT. On storm one, hung back in the core to get hail footage and then went North out of Big timbre on order to catch the NNE moving storms as they crossed HW12 – this actually was a BIG mistake as the tail end Charlie storm turned hard right and paralleled I90 all the way to Billings (where I had spent most of the day sitting) During this time it produce (spotter report) a tornado 4 miles NW of Billings. If only I had gone East out of Big Timbre…

Meanwhile on HW12 not only did I have to core punch the Most northern tornado warned storm – but had to deal with a huge hail fall that covered the road – (read 20mph max speed on ice marbles. An then the road was flooded across in many places. Eventually got out ahead of the Northern cell in time to see the wall cloud move across HW12 to the North – at this stage there was no tornado.

Over all a high energy chase, close but no tornado.

That's a pity and I know the frustration! Hopefully better luck later today.

Here's some screen grabs from the storm that night in Belle Forche, although the quality isn't that good. These photo's run in sequence

Carrying on from the last photo - Again the quality is not good

And the final lot
