I bet Piers is gutted at this warm spell, the chances of the coldest May in 100 years are going down the drain

The chances of the coldest in 100 years never existed in the first place. It was only ever going to be coldest since 1996. But Piers is just pushing the fact that it was colder in the first half of the month and ignoring his prediction of even colder blasts in the second half - and the more obvious fact that he totally failed to forecast the current weather, even a few days out ....

Hot May weather to continue into next week

Much of the UK has been basking in warm weather which is likely to continue into next week. But the high temperatures have come soon after a cold April and early May.

The temperature in Altnaharra in the Highlands has reached 27.3C, up from 9C a week ago, but still short of the record May high for Scotland of 29C. BBC duty weather manager Mike Silverstone said the hot weather had spread to the UK from Scandinavia and eastern Europe.

This month we've more or less gone from mid-winter to mid-summer in the space of a week.

Bookmakers Coral have cut their odds on the UK temperature reaching an all time high this year from 16-1 to 8-1 but Mr Silverstone said it was too early to tell how hot it would be across the British summer. "Every year is very different and there is no seasonal forecast yet," he said.

Sun/summer worshippers are like party bores:

absolutely convinced that just because they want to party every weekend therefore everybody else must want to, too.

Then they go on to tell you what you need, want etc.

It ain't half hot, ma'am: Diamond Jubilee bank holiday set to be happy and glorious… with no sign of rain over us

Weather experts predict the current heatwave is likely to sizzle on for at least the next two weekends

And they say there is a good chance of the mercury hitting 30C over the Jubilee bank holiday as the outlook steadily continues to improve.

It's your decision to get annoyed by that, you could take no notice! It's not going to change, most people love warm weather so it's probably best to accept it rather than wallowing in your own misery. The winter people on this forum do the same to be honest, they openly rejoice over snow when actually many people don't like snow. But everyone has their own preferences so you have to take the rough with the smooth.

It's another hot one! Britain heads for the coast on warmest day of the year as temperatures hit 28.5C

  • Temperatures will remain in the mid 20s this weekend with the west of the country expected to really feel the heat
  • Warm weather will continue next week although it won't be quite as hot and there's a risk of scattered showers
  • Environment Agency says we must still try to conserve water as groundwater levels are still 'exceptionally low'

HEATWAVE SET TO LAST THE WEEKEND AS CONCERNS OVER DROUGHT INCREASE

THE BRITISH summer has finally arrived and with it, soaring temperatures, but concerns over Britain's drought continues.

In its latest briefing on the drought, which is still affecting much of South East and eastern England, the Environment Agency said this week had been the driest since the end of March.

Just 2mm (0.08 inches) of rain or less fell in south eastern England, while 9mm (0.35 inches) was recorded in the North East and North West.

DUST OFF THE BARBIE, IT'S A SIZZLING 82F

Forecaster Dan Williams said next week is also shaping up well with temperatures well above-average for the time of year.

He said: “It is looking like a lovely weekend, and next week, although slightly cooler, will still be good for the time of year.â€

Bookmakers Ladbrokes have slashed the odds from 8-1 to 4-1 on temperatures soaring above 100F (38C) during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.

That defo won't happen even if the GFS isn't believed, the last really hot spell we had in early June I believe was back in 1996, correct me if I'm wrong but we got up to around 33c then! but only for a day or so.

Wall to wall blue skies but clouds creep in for Jubilee

Britain will enjoy wall to tall blue skies this weekend but don’t put the umbrella away just yet as the weather will break and give way to clouds and rain for the Jubilee.

Temperatures will reach 26C (79F) in the south of the country and even low to mid twenties in Scotland, the Met Office predicts.

"There will be unbroken sunshine in most places over much of the weekend," said Charlie Powell, of the Met Office.

The change is weather is caused by hot, dry winds blowing in from Eastern Europe.

However the low pressure will sneak back in from the west from the beginning of the week with showers in the far south west from Sunday reaching across the country by mid week.

It will remain warm around 20C (68F), around average for June, with a cooler breeze around the coast.

Mr Powell said the outlooks was a “mixed bag†for the Jubilee weekend with showers most likely towards the north west.

“It looks as if unsettled theme willl linger into the beginning of June but it is unclear whether it will be rain showers or dry.â€

“The rest of June looks as if it will be average conditions with temperatures in the late teens, early twenties. There will be rain showers but not heavy and it will be warm.â€

What do you think the percentage of people will be that read newspapers compared to weather sites?

THE MED SHIVERS AS THOUSANDS FLOCK TO PARTY-MOOD BRITAIN

GLORIOUS sunshine and Mediterranean temperatures had Britain in pre-Jubilee party mood yesterday. Millions lapped up the sweltering weather ahead of next week’s royal celebrations as temperatures rose to 82.4F (28C) putting traditional holiday hot spots such as an overcast Tenerife in the shade. The whole country enjoyed sunny, cloudless skies with seaside resorts reporting brisk business from early in the morning.
