Oh dear - the headlines above are utter rubbish - coldest February on record, who is fooled by this stuff? Scotland other than higher ground won't see any snow this weekend, mins at best not even down to freezing...

I don't know how they can get away with this... unfortunately some people no doubt are lulled into a wrong sense due to such sensationalist forecasts... its quite dangerous and irresponsible in the this sense and tabloids I feel should be regulated against producing such misleading stories, in the days when the internet wasn't around they were held to account much more I imagine..

Ah yes, no-one else to go to so go to James Madden/Piers Corbyn, who only predict record shattering conditions!

Apparently from the 17th onwards it is generally fine and dry. No mention of all the low pressure headed our way then. That GFS chart they're showing isn't even that hot either, think they've been suckered in with the red colours!

I was wondering where the 170 years came from. UK met office records are from 1910, Royal Met Soc from 1875, maxs each month, a paltry 141 years. Could NR have grabbed a number from the air?

Judging from NR's (criminal?) record, one that's supposed to represent the entire summer?

This appeared a while on FB as a friend shared it, although the story I read, said summer highs and hurricanes.

The Daily Express are a joke, I can't believe people still believe the nonsense they churn out! (weatherwise and in general)

As for the story on The Telegraph, I guess there could be potential on paper for one or a few 30 degree days in London and the South this summer but it's nothing new really that periods of warm/hot weather are followed by thunderstorms with flooding potential. And fits in with the general meteorological consensus of a La Nina flip in August  which has been a write off summer month in recent years anyway.
