Seems to me that the daily star and daily express have hinted at a sensationalist article of big freeze to last until july. Unsubstantiated claims methinks.

The weather stories from the express are more changeable than the weather its self!

March 16th - Britain set for HOTTEST Easter EVER as temperatures to rocket to 80F in holiday heatwave

March 25th - Hold off on the BBQ: Cold spell could last until summer months - they are basically quoting the WSI forecast this time

Express off again with Easter going to be the HOTTEST EVER at 80f. The ENTIRE country will bake in the fiercest April temperatures for years out scorching Spain Greece and North Africa. Apparently due to an unusual wavy jet stream???.

Ah well a wet and cold Easter weekend on the cards then

Looking back at what they posted whilst it wasn't the hottest easter ever (never likely to be when easter is in early April) bar Good Friday's rain it wasn't a bad weekend all in all pleasantly warm where it was sunny and no wind

The Sun: Sizzle do nicely - We’re set for three-month heatwave

Mirror: Britain to sizzle in three-month heatwave with temperatures reaching 28C

Independent: Three-month heatwave begins on Wednesday as temperatures set to hit 23C

You can always rely on the Express going ott you'd think a winter blast was on the way when instead day time temperatures will be in double figures for most with London around the mid teens all week by day

The birth of the weather forecast

The man who invented the weather forecast in the 1860s faced scepticism and even mockery. But science was on his side, writes Peter Moore.

One hundred and fifty years ago Admiral Robert FitzRoy, the celebrated sailor and founder of the Met Office, took his own life. One newspaper reported the news of his death as a "sudden and shocking catastrophe".

Heatwaves 'more likely' in England

England is set for more record-breaking warm years like 2014, say scientists. The chances of England experiencing an exceptionally warm year is 13 times more likely due to human influences on climate, a study suggests. 2014 was the UK's warmest since records began in 1910.

The photo of London in the snow with the caption "Commuters in London will face a horrid journey to work in the cold weather" is pushing the boat out even for the Express!

oh yawn,  they have been saying this for decades, since the global warming hype started in the 80's , still yet to see a summer with sustained heat as 1976

I am in my forties now and the summers do not feel any warmer than in the seventies and eighties, though the stats could prove me wrong,

We were supposed to have a Mediterranean climate by now according to those predictions in the late seventies, well for southern England at least , so thats not happening , and never will,

only thing I have noticed for my location is less snow in winter , but fewer thundery spells in summer,

December 2010 was the coldest snowiest month I have ever witnessed , -14c at 3.00pm in the afternoon , astonishing

Its funny how yesterday was dampened down as we approached it, the plume was more like a small bubble that popped fairly quickly...lets hope it isn't an omen for summer.

That's quite a modest statement for the Express.

The headlines almost every year are for the worst winter on record and without anything to back it up.

Maybe this time they have been reading into the actual science behind the set up and could be on to something.

Thoroughly recommend a listen to the following:

Peter Moore - the Weather Experiment

Peter Moore's account of the quest to understand the atmosphere, from storms to creating forecasts. Read by Tim McMullan

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05vjj7r

Great historical narrative, and quite amusing at times with the exploits of those intrepid Victorians.

Sun-starved Brits set for 'shock to the system' this June thanks to heatwave from Spain

Forecasters at Netweather said ground temperatures in the south of the UK could hit 28C by the end of next week.

Scorching air will arrive from the Continent where the mercury is tipped to soar to a roasting 31C at the start of summer.

2nd study in the last few months to find the gulf stream (part of the AMOC) is slowing and the AMO turning negative. The suggestion is that it could have some big impacts, especially in the north Atlantic.

Global climate on verge of multi-decadal change

A new study, by scientists from the University of Southampton and National Oceanography Centre (NOC), implies that the global climate is on the verge of broad-scale change that could last for a number of decades.

The change to the new set of climatic conditions is associated with a cooling of the Atlantic, and is likely to bring drier summers in Britain and Ireland, accelerated sea-level rise along the northeast coast of the United States, and drought in the developing countries of the Sahel region. Since this new climatic phase could be half a degree cooler, it may well offer a brief reprise from the rise of global temperatures, as well as resulting in fewer hurricanes hitting the United States.

Re the AMO that has been known and anticipated for many years.  Joe B'stardi has been one meteorologist beating that drum  for example for years so nice to see other studies.   Re hottest years ever....since 1910...that says enough.  More heatwaves....lets see how this hugely anticipated on next weekend plays out....looking a heat 'snap' at best currently

Britain Set For Heatwave As Temperatures Soar

Britain will bask in a heatwave this week as the country sizzles in temperatures that will rival holiday resorts in the Mediterranean. Forecasters say rain and gale-force winds will give way to blazing sunshine, with temperatures set to hit 28C (82F) next weekend.

Inconsistency of the media.

Article in Times says temperatures are set to soar to 28C at the weekend as the country sizzles.....

Then you look at the five days ahead forecast in the same paper it has turning cooler and fresher for Saturday with 18C as max in the SE.

And so we move forward, and this heatwave has now become warm blip just like the one above......but aren't we supposed to be experiencing more and more heatwaves??   hmmmm
