The Met. Office have asked a paper for a correction, it won't be the Express, because they would have to do that every other day. So we'll see if they have any success with a page 43 small print line from anyone

Thats interesting

I complained to the Mail on Sunday and got short shift ....  They refused to accept that saying "Britain could be facing one of the wettest winters ever warns Met Office" was inaccurate, even though the MetO themselves refuted the claim, because "Weather prediction is not an exact science, and this is made clear in our article and headline with the words ‘could’ and ‘one of’. Our reporter did not state it would be the wettest winter on record, but that it could be one of the wettest, that it would be wetter than most other years and that this was based on the long-term predictions that were subject to change."

:fool:

Meanwhile ....

Warning: those with weak hearts, weak bladders, a tendency to rage, minor medical conditions, any very basic knowledge of simple meteorology, a gun, access to alcohol, dogs, and young children should avoid the Daily Express.

You have been warned .....

US snowfall and will it impact the UK?

Will the US weather affect the UK?

Many people believe that there’s a rule of thumb that weather in the US will arrive in the UK a few days later – but that’s by no means always the case. In this instance, there’s high confidence that the cold snowy weather will stay on the western side of the Atlantic.

Also, in past winters similar weather situations in the US have strengthened the jet stream and increased the risk of storms across our shores. Again, in this instance, this isn’t expected at the moment. What we do expect to see is further changeable weather over the coming few days.

Another classic to add to the long list;

BRITAIN is just HOURS away from what could be the start of the one of the most severe winters in history.

The country is on heightened alert for a catastrophic big freeze to grind the country to a halt with the first blast from the North Pole due to hit in the next few days.

Forecasters have warned temperatures will plunge TOMORROW before the onset of weeks of snow blizzards, arctic gales, and record low temperatures.

After weeks of speculation forecasters now agree a major and potentially unprecedented whiteout capable of crippling Britain for four months could arrive in just TEN DAYS.

What's acknowledging the fact the the world is getting warmer got to do with politics? The science is far more persuasive.

The Express, on the other hand?  :wallbash:

I don't think anyone with a genuine interest in meteorology or climate science should be happy about overhyped bullsh*t like Madden's getting hits and publicity. The articles are fundamentally anti-science and undermine the work of all meteorologists who have a genuine interest in trying to improve the science rather than just making a quick buck out of sensationalism.

I also find linking these nonsense stories to the AGW debate quite funny, given one of the main claims made by those who don't fully endorse AGW is that its consequences are overhyped and overly apocalyptic. I happen to think that's maybe a fair point, and the whole 'no one will know what snow looks like in 15 years' article from the indy 15 years ago illustrates that the 'mainstream' of climate science can be overly hyped by the media/get it wrong (pretty clearly new research has emerged with new feedback mechanisms which contradict this) but these claims would perhaps be taken more seriously if many of those same people weren't also shouting about 'coldest/wettest/hottest season in 100 years (although all perfectly natural)'.

Anyway, if you want to link to the Express website without giving them hits, use this: https://archive.today/ type in the link to the article and we can look at it without feeling the shame of knowing we'd contributed even a cent to Nathan Rao's paypacket.
