Nathan's been up all night scribing away on his laptop. He must have been at the office Christmas party as the headlines are pretty subdued for him:

Twelve days of Christmas storms: Weather will be wild until New Year

BRITAIN is facing a stormy Christmas with fierce gales and downpours every day until the New Year.

The wild weather warning came as Storm Emily roared in last night with 100mph gusts, heavy rain and the prospect of snow in the North. Forecasters predict there could be at least 12 days of chaotic conditions with a major storm threatened on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Gales of up to 80mph are expected today after Government forecasters upgraded severe weather warnings for wind in the North-west to level-2 amber alert. An estimated two inches of rain is likely to trigger flash floods and could turn into up to eight inches of snow in remote northern areas. Ferocious winds reaching 100mph will whip up blizzards over higher ground causing treacherous driving conditions.

There are warnings for snow in the North today and tomorrow while the West coast and South-west are on alert for heavy rain lasting into the weekend. Met Office spokeswoman Nicky Maxey said gales in the North will bring waves high enough to cause coastal flooding. Warning that the unsettled weather is likely to last over the festive season, she said: “There is heavy rain in parts and as temperatures drop this is likely to turn to snow in the North with strong winds leading to blizzard conditions. “Temperatures are going to drop below normal so there is also a risk of ice on the roads. This theme of murky weather is going to continue next week.†A Met Office statement warned of “significant disruption†today with strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding likely. It said: “There is still some uncertainty about the exact track of the swathe of strongest winds and peak gusts, but in combination with heavy rain and some coastal flooding, the storm has the potential to bring some significant disruption.â€

Last night at Berry Head, south Devon, coastguards recorded a 72mph gust and said conditions at sea were around storm force eight up to 10. Power cuts affected some homes in parts of Devon. In Mullingar in Co Westmeath in Ireland yesterday a 23-year-old woman died after a tree fell on her car in high winds.

Forecaster Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said Britain faces at least a week of chaotic weather – including a major Christmas storm. He said two low pressure systems are threatening to collide over Britain on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day leading to storm-force gusts and downpours. He said: “There is likely to be no let-up from this weather with wind and rain expected every day up until the festive period. And there is another major storm threatening to hit between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, bringing more strong winds and rain.

“There is a distinct risk of severe disruption to travel, with stormy weather looking like lasting into the New Year.† The AA last night warned drivers planning to get away to allow extra time and prepare for disruption. Spokesman Gavin Hill-Smith said: “People should keep an eye on forecasts and reports and be sensible on the roads. With high winds there is a chance of debris on the roads, and ice could also be an issue. “Allow extra time for journeys and make allowances for the roads to be busy as people get away.â€

Netweather’s Nick Finnis is also warning of a Christmas Day storm.

He said: “It is turning wet and windy with severe gales towards the North on Sunday. Unfortunately the weather is unlikely to change as we head into Christmas week, with weather models indicating further deep lows getting menacingly close to northern Britain. “Expect further spells of rain, showers and strong winds – with gales or severe gales in places. One particularly deep low is suggested to move close to northern areas later on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.â€

The Daily star have backtracked from the 180mph winds they were telling us about on December 10th for Christmas to 90mph now

Driving hell as 13 million take to dangerous roads for Christmas

LARGE parts of the UK are set to disappear under eight inches of snow today as the annual Christmas getaway begins. The Met Office warned of 80mph winds, torrential rain and snowdrifts. The weather hell comes as 13million cars take to the roads to travel home for Christmas, sparking fears of festive gridlock. Met Office forecaster Nicky Maxey said: “We’re going to have a lot of unsettled weather over the next few days. “There are yellow warnings for snow across parts of Scotland, as well as amber warnings for winds which could be as strong as 80mph across much of the UK. “Today we’ll see between 10 and 20cm of snow on higher ground, and the wind means that may drift. “Many other areas could also see up to 5cm of snow.†Nicky spoke as residents in the south-west were warned to prepare for flooding and gale force winds. Environment Agency bosses issued 21 flood alerts for the region, with South Devon likely to be worst hit.

The needle really is stuck! 8 inches of snow again, so that could total 2 feet of snow so far this winter! (third time that Scotland has had this amount) wow! Scotland is really getting battered by snow or should I say the peaks of the Cairngorms.

Killer storms batter Britain - and there's MORE to come before Christmas

BRITAIN was battered by wild weather overnight left one person dead and thousands without power. Torrential rain and winds of up to 90mph caused flooding and power disruption across the UK - and experts warn that we can expect MORE of it today and in the run up to Christmas. Gale-force winds blew ROOVES off hotels, shut motorways and turned lorries on their sides. And an Air France plane was pictured making a hair-raising landing at Bristol airport as strong gusts started to ROLL it on its side. Britain is braced for even more gales today, with wind speeds of up to 100mph predicted. Northern Ireland and parts of western Scotland are expected to get the brunt of it, while 20cm of snow is expected to land north of the border. Drivers across England will also face hazardous conditions as freezing cold temperatures are set to turn the roads to ice. Flood warnings have been put in place for parts of the country, with 26 in the south west alone.

White Christmas? No... it'll be wet! Southern Britain faces a festive wash-out - but north and Scotland could have EIGHT inches of snow

You might be dreaming of a white Christmas, but it looks like Britain is about to experience a total festive washout. Heavy rain, hail, high winds and thunder are set to roll across the UK over the next few days – with forecasters predicting more of the same for the Christmas period. The storms are caused by an Atlantic depression which has seen high winds and wet, squally weather sweep in from the west. Experts say the chance of getting a white Christmas is dwindling fast, as the winds will keep temperatures up above freezing, making snow look increasingly unlikely. Ben Windsor of Meteogroup said: ‘The next few days are going to be pretty unsettled with high winds and rain falling, especially across large areas of the North-West. ‘According to the current predictions that is likely to continue into next week and over the Christmas period.

They must have short memories at the Express

BRITAIN is on course for its first proper White Christmas in DECADES with forecasters now predicting widespread snow across the country on Christmas morning.

Well lets rewind 3 years to 2010 that was a white Christmas

2009 white Christmas

2004 white Christmas

2001 white Christmas

2000 white Christmas

1999 white Christmas

Even the Express told us 2010 would be a white one and you can guess who wrote the story: http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/217297/It-s-a-white-Christmas

Britain faces a soggy Christmas as relentless floods plague UK

BRITAIN is braced for a wet and wild weekend, with forecasters warning Christmas could be ruined by torrential floods. Many parts had up to three inches of rain last night and the downpours will continue in the run-up to the 25th. After several days of heavy rain, the ground in many parts of the UK has become saturated and unable to absorb any more water. That has seen a wave of flood alerts with fear of mayhem on Christmas Day. Millions living in low-lying areas were warned their homes were at risk of flooding that could wreck their festive season. High Street stores also fear the storms could keep shoppers away and halt a last-minute sales boom. Prices are being slashed by many shops today on Panic Saturday to boost business.

But travel disruption could keep people indoors. A Met Office spokesman said: “We are expecting more stormy weather over the coming days. “The heaviest rain will affect the west and south west.†But forecasters said a sudden plunge in temperatures could still bring snow on the 25th. That prompted bookies William Hill to cut white Christmas odds to 2-1 in Edinburgh, 7-2 in Newcastle, 4-1 in Manchester and 5-1 in London.

Weather Warning As Train Delays Expected

Network Rail is warning of disruption to the Christmas getaway as strong winds and heavy rain are expected across Britain tomorrow. Gusts of up to 60mph are likely nearly everywhere in the afternoon, possibly reaching 80mph later in the day in some areas. Some trains could be delayed or cancelled and some rail operators could run an amended timetable, Network Rail said. It could mean disruption to Christmas travel plans for many thousands of people. The wild weather could also cause problems for motorists. The RAC is predicting that 13 million people will take to the roads from December 24 to 26.

Sky News Weather Presenter Nazaneen Ghaffar said: "Very strong winds are expected [on Monday] as the deep area of low pressure across the southwest moves northwards past the Western Isles of Scotland. Gusts are expected to reach 60mph almost everywhere during the afternoon. "Later, during the evening and overnight wind gusts may reach 70-80mph across central and south-eastern parts of England. "Heavy rain is also expected to spread eastwards to most of the UK during the afternoon and overnight. So it will be a very wet and very windy day for all areas."

However Britain faces a stormy run up to the festive season with more gales and heavy rain on the way. Torrential downpours threaten to lash parts of the country while exposed regions are once again braced for 90mph gusts. The Met Office has severe weather warnings in place for heavy rain in the South-west today (Saturday) where flooding is possible on saturated ground. Much of the North and West is under another warning for strong winds on Monday and Tuesday with more rain expected across the UK and snow in the North.

Blizzards, gales and floods to bring chaos to Britain over the festive period

A FEROCIOUS storm is set to ravage Britain today, bringing chaos to shoppers and travellers trying to get away for Christmas. Gales of 80mph are due to blast in on one of the busiest days of the year, with coastal areas facing gusts of 100mph. Severe weather warnings have been issued across huge swathes of the country, with snow alerts for the North. In the South a more serious amber warning is in place for torrential downpours, with some areas expecting more than two inches of rain - or half a month's worth - to fall in a matter of hours today.

Plunging temperatures in the North. will trigger wintry showers with several inches of snow likely on high ground, while blizzards will cripple roads and transport networks in the hours before Christmas. Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, said the conditions were like a repeat of the devastating St Jude's Day storm which struck in October. He said: "I haven't seen anything like this for quite some time. This is shaping up to be worse than anything we have seen this year. "A huge and deep area of low pressure is heading straight for the UK and is due to hit on Monday morning.

Severe Weather: Families Forced From Homes

Around 90 people are being evacuated from their homes following a severe flood warning, Dorset Police have said. The evacuation is taking place on the River Stour near Bournemouth following the warning from the Environment Agency. It comes as tens of thousands of people across the UK are facing a miserable Christmas Day, with flooded homes, no power - and a big struggle to get home because of travel disruption. Dozens of homes have been left under water and many families will spend the day without electricity after torrential rain lashed the country.

Officers have been monitoring the levels of the River Stour closely for 24 hours and people living in the threatened areas were warned of the possibility of flooding and evacuation. Police described the rescue effort as a "multi-agency operation" and advised people who have concerns about flooding to contact the Environment Agency. Emergency services are also making ready to evacuate people from the Beaulieu Garden Park Home in Christchurch, Dorset, after another severe flood warning - warning of danger to life - at 5.40am, the third such alert in place.

Airline easyJet said it would be operating a limited number of Christmas Day flights from the airport to replace 83 cancelled on Tuesday because of the power cut. These include flights to Faro, Basle, Malaga, Alicante and Amman, while passengers from a cancelled flight from Gibraltar to Gatwick will be travelling on one from Malaga. EasyJet said it would be unable to schedule any further flights today because of limited capacity at airports and crew availability.

Thousands stranded at Gatwick or without power at home after severe flooding hits Britain

SEVERE flooding is causing serious difficulties for thousands of people across southern England after a barrage of stormy weather battered the UK. Three flood warnings are currently in place in Surrey and Dorset and residents had to be rescued from at risk homes overnight. As well as flood damage, thousands of households are facing a Christmas morning without electricity. Gatwick Airport has also been heavily affected by the wet weather after a flood at one of the busy airport's power stations on Tuesday saw flights cancelled and left passengers stranded. Low cost airline easyJet was forced to cancel over 80 flights on Christmas Eve, one of the busiest days of the year for the airline, due to the North Terminal power failure. A spokesman said: "We apologise to all passengers affected and understand how frustrating this is particularly at Christmas.

Flooding forces evacuations while thousands are left stranded or without power

SEVERE flooding looks set to ruin Christmas for thousands as many in Britain remain without power or stranded at airports. Both Surrey and Dorset remain on alert with severe flood warnings and some residents had to be evacuated from their homes overnight. Around 90 people have been evacuated from their homes on the River Stour near Bournemouth on Wednesday morning following a severe flood warning from the Environment Agency, Dorset Police revealed. As well as seeing their homes damaged by rising water levels, many are facing a Christmas Day without electricity due to power outages. Those looking forward to a Christmas getaway or simply trying to get home to their families were also dealt a blow after chaos reigned at one of England's busiest airports.

Gatwick Airport's North Terminal suffered a loss of power after a flood struck one of the airport's power stations. EasyJet cancelled 83 flights on Christmas Eve, traditionally one of the busiest for the airline, due to the terminal's power failure.

A spokesman for the budget airline said: "We apologise to all passengers affected and understand how frustrating this is particularly at Christmas. "A number of easyJet staff have volunteered to work on Christmas Day to operate delayed flights and we secured several hundred hotel rooms at Gatwick to accommodate passengers delayed overnight."
