The Express get worse

FLOODED STREETS...NOW GET READY FOR TORNADOES

WE have had weeks of seemingly endless rain, now the deluge will be joined by tornadoes as Britain’s freakish summer just gets even weirder.

Forecasters said warm moist air is likely to trigger twisters strong enough to tear roof tiles off buildings across central England from tomorrow.

It comes amid warnings that torrential downpours will get heavier with some areas facing a month’s worth of rain in three hours.

The non-stop downpours will continue to bring the risk of widespread floods until at least the end of the month – and weather experts last night predicted they could continue through July and August.

Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said: “Temperatures are set to rise this week and could get into the 70s.

“But then we will have a swath of moist, warm air, the perfect ingredients for tornadoes. These will be a threat anywhere but mainly across the UK’s central belt known as Tornado Alley.â€

WE’RE ON TRACK FOR WETTEST JUNE EVER, WITH EVEN MORE DOWNPOURS ON WAY

FLOOD-HIT Britain is on course for its wettest June ever.

Some areas could get another four inches of rain over the next three days.

And Met Office experts yesterday issued a severe weather alert for the south-west and Wales, with torrential downpours expected up to the weekend.

80MPH STORM CHAOS ON WAY

BRITAIN is set to be battered by storms and hurricane-force 80mph winds from lunchtime today.

Emergency services warned of a “major flood event†from tonight with up to three months’ worth of rain falling in three days.

A system of low pressure from the Atlantic is set to bring a repeat of last weekend’s storms as the country endures the worst June weather for more than a century.

Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, said: “We have had a brief respite but now we have another very nasty system of low pressure rolling in. This is really capable of packing a punch.â€

He said most parts of the country face 70mph winds but they could be whipped up into a repeat of last weekend when wind speeds in some areas reached 82mph.

To add to the misery, eight inches of rain could fall by Saturday.

He said this will fall “on already sodden ground, bringing the risk of severe floodingâ€.

A new low for the Express front page headline of

SUMMER STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

SUMMER is likely to be a complete washout as Britain endures the worst rain storms for 50 years, forecasters warned last night.

The battering the country will endure over the next three days – with a month’s worth of rain set to fall by Sunday – is likely to be followed by nearly three months of grey skies and deluges.

Forecasters fear the equivalent of five months of rain could fall by the end of June. They do not anticipate any significant hot spell until well into September.

Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said last night: “What we are looking at is an extremely unusual weather event.

“Apart from very brief spikes of heat during the summer, this is it for July and August.â€

James Madden, of Exacta Weather, said the rest of the summer would be “unsettled†as long as the jet stream – which is responsible for the washout – refuses to budge.

Would that be the same Express that (only a few short days' back) was predicting mid-80s for us - about now?

BRITAIN LASHED BY STORM OF CENTURY

BRITAIN is facing devastating floods and hurricane force winds as the country is lashed by a once-in-50-years storm. Huge swathes of the country are on flood alert today after an Atlantic storm, right, closed in on the west coast.

Huge swathes of the country are on flood alert today after an Atlantic storm closed in on the west coast.

The Met Office warned yesterday that up to 60mm of rain, a month’s worth, would fall overnight as the first of the 70mph gales hit land. Three months’ rain is expected in just three days.

The Environment Agency warned people in the south-west, Wales and Midlands that they should “prepare for floodingâ€.

The north and Northern Ireland will also be hit.

Road and rail chaos is expected and the Highways Agency urged drivers to cancel or delay journeys in the worst-hit areas.

How can anyone predict what it will be like in September when most forecasters can't tell you what it will be like in 7 days?

No doubt if September turns out to be nice, that will vilify the we know what the weather will be like in 50 year brigade.

HAYFEVER HELL FOR MILLIONS

HAYFEVER misery has struck with a vengeance and Britain’s topsy-turvy weather is to blame.

The number of people visiting their GP with severe symptoms has soared five-fold in a few weeks.

Many were lulled into a false sense of security by the wet, cold snap. But the situation for the nation’s 16 million hayfever sufferers is only likely to get worse with more wet and warm weather on the way.

But with temperatures set to soar into the 80s for a brief period next week, more will be affected

But the warmer weather is due to kick in from Tuesday.

Mr Powell said: “It is a completely different picture next week with temperatures rocketing into the mid-80s, and the summer of extremes is set to continue. It is a real swing from one extreme to another.

“There may be the odd shower in there somewhere, but for the main it is a few days of warm dry weather. But make the most of it because it is not going to last.â€

Forecasters warned Britons there is more wind and rain on the way. Another system of low pressure from the Atlantic is gearing up to swirl across the UK from the end of next week.

BRIT OF A WILD ONE

WET and wild weather will continue to batter parts of Britain this weekend.

A tornado struck Bossiney Bay in Tintagel, Cornwall, yesterday and 300ft waves smashed the Cornish coastline at Porthleven.

Punters at York races were forced to dash for cover.

Glad I wasn't near the 300ft wave lol

That's what I was thinking after seeing that! Posted Image

I've been to Porthleven many times and although in storms it does get some very high waves, 300ft would devour the whole harbour I think haha...
