That looked like a monster. Hopefully we'll get more of the same this year.

What had the conditions been like that day?

A cyclonic south to south-westerly regime with sunshine and showers from a returning polar maritime airstream. Winds veered south-westerly or westerly across the country as the afternoon and evening progressed.

I was in Cleadon in Tyne and Wear on that day and there weren't any thunderstorms there but certainly some heavy showers. Thunder activity occurred mostly in the south-eastern half of England.

Thanks for the kind remarks everyone, it was a nicely organised storm, with signs of rotation, the hail was around 8mm irregular and opaque , i think the same area of convection produced a tornadoe in Eye later that evening.

Nice pics! This is very near to where I live

There was a tornado in Great livermere last september, some good panaramic views round that area!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
