A rather cool/cold night last night with a min of 0.7C so very likely a ground frost although I wasn't awake to see.

Then a day with some cloud at times, and good spells of sunshine like yesterday. The temp was held below 15C much of the day though reached a max of 15.7C this afternoon when a bit of cloud cleared (The wind from south off the sea limited temps a bit).

So not an above average day here with a below average min and a about average, maybe slightly below max.

Yesterday's max of 17.6C was a bit above average, and sometimes days like that are the best for being outdoors with a few cumulus and the countryside looking great in clear air and excellent visibility due to the polar maritime origin. Great cycling weather.

Currently 12.9C and cloudy with a southerly breeze.

A much warmer feeling day than yesterday thanks to the change in wind direction and flow this time a gentle southwesterly - became quite muggy mid afternoon.

Tomorrow looks very different overcast with rain or showers and cool.

May 2011 compared to April 2011 has been notably much much wetter, duller and many days have only reached the monthly maxima - I think we managed 20 degrees on one or two occasions at the start of the month but since most days have been 12-15 degrees.

One feature of this month here has been the homogeneity of maxima- Shawbury currently has an average max of 17.0C, but only 2 days have topped 20.

And only 2 days with more than 8 hours sun since the 4th, only one (Tuesday) with more than 10, loads in the 4-6 bracket- that's the repeated clouding over by 10am reflected in the stats.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
