Penkridge does seem to get some cracking storms.. i remember the day a giant cell spawned about 4 tornado's and funnel cloud, with the hockey centre towards Cannock getting a battering. I think that must have been about 8 years ago now, was something to see especially the lightening that day.

Stunning footage - amazing detail and characteristics! Curious to know the temp/dew point spread in Penkridge that day, as you commonly get to see more detail of the storms the higher spread.

Superb lightning display and indeed a higher than usual frequency than we get year on year.

Absolutely $##/'?* mental mate :drinks:

Great documentation of a memorable storm and your enthusiasm & passion shine though in these videos

And we thought it looked good from 20 odd miles away

Taken from Harborne in Birmingham 10.15pm

Thanks for your kind comments so far everyone.. :good:.I feel really priveliged & lucky to have witnessed that monster storm :D

Just to add to what Weather09 posted, to save any confusion, last nights storm was not a supercell to the best of my knowledge, however it did have some visual characteristics shared with its more violent cousin, ie pronounced layered shelf cloud, bowing gust front & a marked inflow

Heres a photo of the clouds above your area showing the feature you mentioned

( excuse the outoffocusness of this images.... but we were off our tits by this time  )

Reminds me of a storm we had down on the south coast many years ago when the sky went a weird pink colour. I was only a kid at the time but it scared the heck out of me.

Nice AJ !

(sorry for the late reply)

Did not see the storm with my own eyes due to going out for a meal, it was nice - but not as nice as the storm lol

I left webcam running and out of a myriad of stills i did a short list - 1 frame @ 4 second intervals and the gust front was quite impressive on the lapse, if i knew it was going to be a beast i should have recoreded it in hd!
