A few pictures from yesterday's Thunder day at Elvington Air museum, North Yorkshire.

The best part of the day for me was when they ran the Nimrod's engines which was a very special moment

Looks like you had a good day for it Brian.. :)

Couldn't have been better Paul :D However, My daughter is suffering from a touch of sunburn today, but she says she enjoyed herself.

By the way, if anyone would like to hear the Nimrod, I captured a video of it. I haven't posted it because I'm not sure how many aircraft enthusiasts there are on the forum :D

Almost all

Very nice pics, though I'm sure some on Netweather had a different kind of 'thunder' in mind when they saw this thread title :whistling:

Yeah, I should have put that it includes 'Lightning' pictures, as the aircraft in picture no.12 is called a 'Lightning' :D

The last time i saw a Lightning flying was 91 , it was the metalic finish with top tanks version, Wattisham had an open day, the next day a phantom tornado and lightning were flying together ,to show the aircraft types of 56 squadron ,shame we wont see a lightning flying again...

Along with the Vulcan bomber, the Lightning is one of my favorite aircraft. Unfortunately, though, I've never been lucky enough to see one fly.

I must try and get to an air show this summer if I can. I'd like to go Fairford again, but it can be quite expensive for the whole family.

Mildenhall is 15 miles from my place, the annual airshow stopped around 99, the SR71 Blackbird was a regular site round here in late 80s, there were a few Lightning aircraft flying in South Africa untill last year, but now i think Thunder-City nr. Cape town has stopped operating, my brother can remember watching the lightnings brand new at coltishal in 1960!

You are right, Thunder city- Cape town have had to stop operating their Lightnings/ buccaneers and Hunters due to lack of funds, which is a huge shame. Probably the only left oppurtunity to see Lightnings or Buccs in the world. We do still have the Vulcan though, which is something to be gratefull for, along with several Hunters,,, at least for now anyway. Did you ever see that taxi run at Bruntingthorpe of the Victor which ended up turning into an aborted landing after taking offf by accident, It's on the youtube channel... AMAZING
