Is It Right That The UK Still Gives Aid To India?

Recommended Posts

The government has announced that it is going to cap the aid given to India at £295 million this year. India is a country with an expected growth in its economy of 9% next year, it's a nuclear power and has more Billionaires than Britain. India is also an aid giving country and is likely to donate upwards of £300 million this year. Add that to a reported £36 billion spend per annum on defence, are we right to freeze the aid or do we actually need to withdraw it all together?

It looks like Britain will be stopping direct aid to 16 countries, including Russia, China, Vietnam, Serbia and Iraq - is this a sensible decision or will it cost lives or living standards abroad?
