There is no other description for what is happening other than war crime and genocide.   Israel is technically the occupying force on Gaza and as such is duty bound to protect civilians.   Complet

The scenes in Gaza look like the aftermath of a nuclear bomb, utter devastation. The Israelis telling people to go back to their homes in northern Gaza as its "safe", what are they supposed to go back

Reported on the BBC too... An air strike on an army camp has killed three soldiers, the Syrian government says, blaming the US-led coalition for the attack. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-

Russia's False Narrative in Syria: December 1, 2015

    Quote
President Vladimir Putin is actively misinforming his domestic audience and the international community about Russia’s first military intervention outside the former Soviet Union since Afghanistan. Putin has created a false narrative about the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) to disguise the true objectives behind Russia’s intervention Syria and is using this narrative to manipulate the international community. Putin encapsulated this false narrative in his UN speech calling for an alternate international coalition against ISIS on September 28, two days before the start of Russia’s air campaign in Syria.  Russia intervened in Syria on September 30 not to defeat ISIS, but rather to curb U.S. influence in the Middle East and to project Russian military power into the region to a historically unprecedented degree.

Russia’s air campaign is focused on targeting Syrian armed opposition groups fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad rather than ISIS. Russia has grounded the rhetoric surrounding its military intervention in Syria in the immediate domestic terror threat posed by ISIS. ISIS includes an estimated 7,000 foreign fighters from the former Soviet Union and declared its own governorate in Russia’s restive North Caucasus region. Moscow does view ISIS as a legitimate security concern, but the dissonance between Russia’s claimed objectives and its actual behavior reveals that Russia uses anti-ISIS rhetoric as a pretext to pursue its larger strategic objectives. Russia seeks to preserve the Syrian regime and diminish the influence wielded by the U.S. and its regional allies, which support the Syrian opposition. Regime preservation in Damascus is a core Russian objective that enables Russia to cement its foothold in the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean Sea while simultaneously expanding its influence through partnerships with Iran and the Iranian network of regional proxies. Putin is leveraging disinformation in order to obfuscate his true objectives in Syria and thereby manipulate the U.S. and regional actors into inadvertently helping Russia achieve its goals.

Oil found in the Golan heights..

Genie Confirms Report of Possible Big Golan Oil Find

U.S. company says it found ‘significant’ qualities of oil and gas at Ness license...

...Oil exploration is likely to encounter legal problems as the Golan is regarded as occupied Syrian territory. But Eitam told TheMarker last month that he wasn’t concerned.
“We are operating through the power of attorney of the state, which has had control of the Golan for more than 40 years,” said Eitam. “Syria right now is at war.”

It's funny you should say that. I was wondering the other day what would be the reaction if this scenario was being played out and instead of Russia supporting Assad and his genocidal policies it had been a western coalition. The screams of outrage from the chattering classes would have been deafening and accompanied by demands that Cameron and Obama be dragged to the Hague and tried as war criminals.

Yes of course one has to try to sift out the lies and propaganda from what we read and hear which is not easy, although I note many make little effort to do this if it suites their agenda, but there are two indisputable facts. Two hundred and fifty thousand are dead and twelve million are refugees. The west is not accountable for that and if recent reports are correct there will soon be a few more if the Russian bombing in northern Syria continues.

Turkey needs to be brought to heal as do the Saudi's. In Saudi's case is the loss of arms deals would be large.

Cameron says this will take a long time. That's because apart from Putin nobody has got a plan. No plan or strategy means a long protected period of violence.

I quite agree. Putin's plan is to consolidate Russia's strategic position in Syria by bombing the free Syrian Army with thousands of civilians, killed or forced to flee, being the collateral damage. Not a plan I find acceptable.

Putin also said it is illegal for the UK to bomb Syria, unlike Cameron who doesn`t know what reality is.

So the UK/US will be killing many more civillians.

The UK Parliament’s Decision to Bomb Syria is ILLEGAL .

    Quote of the day.

The first casualty of war is always the truth…

War propaganda begins: UK airstrikes hit Syrian oil field already “obliterated”

Bombing for the fun of it,bombing targets already hit, whats that costing the taxpayer.

As long as any political agreement is favourable to Putin keeping his naval base then I think he will happily get rid of Assad. Lets say the USA had military interests in a country that they thought were crucial they would be protecting those. The same situation in Cyprus for the UK what with the bases aswell as the listening station on top of Mount Olympus which strategically is one of the most important in the world. I have no time for Putin but I find it rank hypocrisy by the west to start moralizing given the UKs support for the  Bahrain regime aswell as its fawning over Saudi and the west has supported many vile regimes for their own interests.

Makes sense really. Now if the Kurds end up controlling the region what is the bet that it will stay.

    Good post by Nick.

One of the reasons I got annoyed by people who go on a moral crusade. We support a lot of bad guys so if we going to be fare we should be tackling those as well.

    http://news.sky.com/story/1600566/iraq-calls-for-withdrawal-of-turkish-troops

Iraq has called on Turkey to "immediately" withdraw troops near the Islamic State-held city of Mosul, saying their presence is a "violation" of international law.

Some 600 Turkish soldiers and 25 tanks have been sent to Bashiqa in northern Iraq.

Turkey claims the camp is a "training facility" to support volunteer forces in the fight against terrorism.

But Iraq's President Fuad Masum called the move a "violation of international norms, laws and Iraq's national sovereignty".

Hakim al-Zamili, the head of parliament's security and defence committee, called for airstrikes against Turkish troops if they remained in Iraqi territory.

The Saudi`s are still bombing yemen too as well as supplying arms to daesh which started all this fake war.

The power of nightmares I recommend you watch.

Second medical facility bombed by  U.S.-backed Saudi-led coalition in Yemen in just over a month.

Cold waves hitting Europe continue to threaten growers, is there a link to climate change?

Much of Europe, not just the UK, has experienced unseasonably cold weather since the Easter Weekend. A plunge of cold arctic air brought by northerly winds early last week brought several nights of frost and even snow across large swathes of Europe, followed by another wave of cold arctic air spreads across much of Europe this week. The frosts causing damage to new growth in vineyards and orchardsa0spurred on by a late March heatwave, the vineyards of France werea0particularly badly affected.
