Was just looking at the Cairngorm website and one of the cameras showed this image:

Have a look for yourself. I know there are no active volcanoes in the UK, so what the hell is it?

Ice crystals reflecting/diffracting some light source. There is no current volcanic activity in Cairngorm (and hasn't been for many, many million years, as far as I'm aware).

Ah good explanation!

I didn't think of the lens, I thought of it as an ariel view for some reason, even though I have viewed that camera many times loll.
