cloudy and dry at the moment after rain overnight with a low, early on of 2.7C, its now 6.7C; without looking at my data this is probably the warmest 0830 temperature in some weeks!

The combination of a steady rise in temperature yesterday evening and moderate-heavy rain early this morning has removed most of yesterday's snow cover, just a few bits still lying, plus the old drifts from the snow in December.

Currently cloudy and dry with a rapid fall in temperature, down from 5.6c at 0700 to 1.1c now.

The overnight min' was 0.2c ( 24hr min' was -1.2c) and yesterday's max' was 6.6c, reached around 0630 today.

Rainfall in 24hrs ending 0900, 15.9 mm

Mean wind speed, 29 mph W/NW

Saturday 08th January 2011:

A sharp rise in temperature overnight turned it very mild for a short time with the temperature hitting 8.0c, the highest temperature since 18th of November. Ice which has persisted on my pond since 24th of November has finally thawed. Since around 07:00Gmt there has been an equally sharp fall in temperature as the wind veered from southerly to westerly. At observation, overcast windy and cold, temperature now 4.5c and falling rapidly.

It's snowing - quite heavily actually....and settling! Wasn't expecting this.

1.3º with a dewpoint of 0.0º but the surfaces are so cold.

Radar looks quite good up your way, lots of pink!

Moderate-heavy rain early this morning cleared by 0730 and by 1000 the cloud had dispersed to allow a sunny end to the morning. Cloud increased again during the early afternoon but it remained dry and by 1630 most of the cloud had dispersed again. Windy this morning, the mean speed not far off gale force for a couple of hours, but the wind decreased to force 5 by early afternoon.

Overcast, wet and windy overnight with further heavy rain just after sunrise. Rather mild too, with a max of 7.9C - the mildest since 20th November. After the rain passed it then turned much cooler, with the temperature hovering close to 4C. The afternoon was then sunny with occasional cloudy spells, before clearing during the last few hours and allowing a light ground frost.

Currently 2.2C and 84% humidity. 1.6mm of rain today.
