Good to see the 18z gfs run continues with the easterly theme from the 19th/20th January

Okay well the NAE is out.

Main area of risk is central northern England, so South, West and North West Yorkshire.

Snowfall likely to turn to rain before 10-11PM.

10-15 Cm quite widely with locally up to 20 Cm.

Precipitation accumulation is forecast to be around 10MM for central areas, this typically equates to 13 CM of snow, but as snow will become increasingly wet depths predicted may be lower.

Warmer 850's increase from the south, the speed at which is still undecided, if slower than an obvious higher risk of prolonged snowfall. As it stands warmer 850's by 9PM in the south, covering all areas by 11PM.

Afterwards a band of heavy rain sweeps through Yorkshire, large thaw will occur with patchy lying snow by morning, however not a full thaw as temperatures will be 1.c above freezing. 850's around 1-2.c, so fairly close to snow but just not enough.

Particular note is the ensembles, most members below 0.c with only four above freezing. If 850's stay below zero as most members suggest then snowfall throughout is a possibility, however this would mean the track of PPN would change.

Current temp sustained at -1.7c, Dew point -3.3c.

@ Craigers, what was your temp before the front arrived, and great to see snow reports!

Who knows it could stay as snow throughout for Yorkshire.

I'm having to travel tomorrow morning so would be interested to know if the snow will turn to rain tonight. I'm at 330metres asl. If it stays as snow i may struggle.
