LOL Birmingham Airport reporting everything but the kitchen sink.

"Light rain snow"

"Recent rain"

"Recent snow"

Yep. That about sums up what we've had over the last half an hour!

Now we've got light snow with big flakes so can't tell if it's getting stronger or petering out. Ho hum.

Talk about taking the ~~~ ..... I live at M1 J21 (Virtually on the Junction ) and we have pure rain not even sleet . Unyet look at J22 5 Mins up the road .

post-2826-0-71470800-1294388045_thumb.jp

Yeah that happens in borderline events unfortunately :( J22 is higher up, Coalville area, height is around 150m there, it seems the extra 80m is making all the difference this time.

Snow's pretty much stopped falling in West Malvern but we're shrouded in hill fog so can't see beyond about 25 meters!

fellow midlanders come to North Derbys for the snow, looks like some of the schools could be closed, total white out now.

as usual side roads and most od the B roads have not been gritted.

:shok: could this be a total snow event here, only turning to light rain late afternoon ???

Thanks for that update Fizz. I couldnt decide wether to go into work later or not (in Solihull).

Currently in redditch its just drizzly rain now after earlier snow , but some cars have quite a bit of snow on them. Not sure where they have come from ?

After what time is it safe to say that we will get no more snow here in South Midlands ?

Rain now in Hereford at 0.1c!

Still hanging onto the snow here, but it's looking like the flakes are getting "heavier".

Completely stopped here now, and for what it's worth the skies look too light to be holding any great quantities of anything.

Certainly can't see any road problems in Solihull today Mr Benn. :)

Parts of Britain face 10cm snowfall

Britain is braced for more snow with large parts of England and Wales set for as much as 10cm. The worst-hit places will be higher ground as a fresh band of rain, sleet and snow showers moved across the country. But this latest spell of wintry weather is expected to be brief with snow turning to rain by the weekend and milder temperatures next week.

Tiffany Curnick, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "We've got a front moving in from the south-west that's going to bring southern counties rain and possibly snow over the hills. "It could be up to 5cm (2in) in places across Wales and the Midlands and 10cm (4in) is possible across higher parts of Wales. She said the snow would last throughout Friday night but then clear quite early on Saturday. "We could see some more snow coming on Saturday night across Scotland and northern England but in the south it's staying around average temperatures," she added. South-east England is expected to reach 10C (50F) while the Midlands will rise to 5C to 6C (41F-42.8F) while further north will remain around freezing.

Severe weather warnings of heavy snow were issued by the Met Office for parts of Scotland while heavy rain was expected in London and eastern and south-eastern England. But forecasters said the snowfall would give way to a milder spell going into next week with temperatures that could reach as high as 13C (55.4F) Helen Chivers, forecaster at the Met Office, said: "Really, it's just normal wintry weather we've got over the next few days. As we go into next week, it's going to be very much milder."

Last 45 mins its been really heavey... now bigger flakes but more "sleety" than earlier this AM.

The clock is on for how long it hangs about!

Premium radar showing the rain now making strong gains into the southern Midlands.

Does that mean its it for the snow for today ? Or can that rain turn to snow quite easily ?

Thanks
