Back to heavy snow again... this is confusing, not that it takes much to confuse me!!!<BR>

You think you're confused.

This winter is something I have never witnessed before and my clearest memories are of miserable mild murk complete with flu-ridden work colleagues and relatives saying will we ever get any cold frosty weather.

WELCOME TO THE HISTORIC WINTER OF 2010/11 :smiliz34: :ph34r: :yahoo::drunk::oops::lazy:

And guys n gals Just how much more snow can you put up with before it becomes a pain in the nether regions. Personally a long time before I'm bothered, am I bothered :p NO!

Historic Cheers

Rain only here, in view of the higher temps no other option. :wallbash: Is this the end of the cold spell for me or will it turn colder again once this low passes?

All rain again here in the bowels of Southampton! Temp 1.0. At least it doesn't appear to be freezing on the ground.

Winds appear to be backing more to the SE to ESE.

It's been raining heavily from Shanklin to Newport this morning with just a hint of sleet towards the Downs. It looks like this is it for the time being and R4 is forecasting rain along the South Coast - to see the dramatic temperature rise have a look at www.chimet.co.uk - more details within atmospheric conditions - a dramatic rise in air tem which concurs with the details seen at home.

first bit of the break away band arrived here, not bad, fairly thick flakes coming down quickly. dont think there's more than 20 to 30 mins of it looking at the radar, hoping the next lot doesn't decay too much before arriving!

There's no question that if there was no snow cover already, what's falling now would not be settling. But, with 5 inches on the ground (must be now), it's only serving to top it up. May *just* be starting to look a little wetter in nature, but it's still snow. The temp is 0.7, humidity 93%, right on the limit.

In fact, looks more like sleet in this burst, but I could be wrong... unsure.gif

Some photos:

In Ringwood, Hampshire this morning:

And as I've posted that, it's turned to rain. Not sure it makes that much of a difference right now to be honest, the damage has been well and truly done.

Lovely. Well bbc weather shows 10-15cm. Considering how small the blob is and how it seems to be going more east along the coast I can't see Winch getting anywhere near 1cm let alone 15! It's so thin and light. Looks like sleet.

Don't often post on here but have to say I've enjoyed all the comments and reports.

Slight to moderate rain here on the hillslopes above Portsmouth - +2.7C. 6 mile morth at home it is also raining with temps just topped +2C

Although dissapointed, we are paying the price for three days of moderation and mixing of the original polar airmass plus suffering from a drift off the sea.

My stance remains that, although this spell has been remarkable, for nailed-on snow near the coast you need a decent long-fetch easterly. And for that I think we'll have to wait a while for our next chance.

Some sort of front has clearly gone through here, temp gone up to 1.5 from 0.8 in about 15 mins. Mod to heavy rain, winds now appear to have veered to the S.

The 13H analysis shows the low over Cornwall has hardly moved. I guess what might happen is the whole thing will slide eastwards, perhaps with a new low forming over us, and the winds will gradually turn back around to the E or NE, so those of us with rain now could see it turning back to snow before it dies out.

Next couple of days could go either way for us on the coast, the old front stuck over us, gradually fizzling out.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand relax.

The rain's 15 minutes of fun didn't do anything to the snow cover, and all precipitation has now stopped. Even better, the temperature has stabilised and even dropped 0.1 of a degree since the rain stopped (now a balmy 0.6C). Might take a walk up to the supermarket in a bit, I'll be sure to take the old camera with me, see if I can't find some interesting pictures to take... whistling.gif

The 1310 update is false, it happens every now and again. Missing data I think.

The last few have came back on board with the proper ones :)

lovely that is ok now then - gave me a right old shock to start with

Just so you know .... even though we have a lovely blob over Brighton according to the radar. There is nothing, rien, nada, nought falling from the sky of any PPN definition.

Just thought Id share that one with you...
