A dry night with cloud clearing and the temperature up and down like a yo yo.

The sun just clearing a bank of Cist on the south eastern horizon at the moment and a few Cu tops visible over the Lincolnshire coastline.

The temp' is -4.8c after a min' of -5.2c

Very severe frost, with ground temperatures extremely cold. Low –7.9c with –13.3c on the grass (snow) Snow cover just slight, 75% cover 0.1cm. At observation, bright, bitterly cold, severe frost.

Clear spells for a short time last night allowed ground temperatures to plummet to –10.9c, though the screen temperature only fell to –4.7c, with a moderate to severe frost. Mainly cloudy conditions later in the night produced a few light snow flurries. At observation cloudy with light snow. The day remained overcast with slight snow at times, though only a few miles west of this station in Uttoxeter, there was persistent, moderate to heavy snow. Very cold in the fresh easterly wind, with the wind chill as low as –11c. Maximum –1.6c. Maximum wind gust 20mph, easterly.

if you go to Wx Online and call up the minimum temperatures it makes interesting reading.

This morning only the Scilly Isles with a low of +3C is above zero C Very very rare so many places show zero C or below with Pershore apparently topping the list at -20C.

The same figures yesterday morning showed 5 above zero C

Some cold spell!

Topped out at -3.7C here earlier after a low of -14.2C.

Currently -4.9C.

It must be comforting to know that when the temperature begins to fall around sunset it will continued to do so, almost uninterrupted, until dawn the next day. Unfortunately that is almost never the case here!

After a sunny start it became cloudy here around 1100 and has remained mostly cloudy ever since with a broken sheet of Stcu for much of the time. Below freezing all day and I would estimate the temperature at about -2.5c, the lack of accurate measurement due to being at work.

Overnight low of -10.5°c here. Down the road Crosby weather station reported a record low of -17°c.
