Hi Loretta,

What sort of price range are you looking at? Do you think he would like a full weather station, i.e measures wind speed & direction/rain/temperature/dew point/humidity or just a wireless thermometer with humidity/dewpoint?

Good places to buy from would be:

http://www.weathershop.co.uk/

http://www.meteorologica.co.uk

You can get weather stations from between £40 - £1000 so a budget would be helpful before I try to recommend specific models. There are also lots of other topics in this sub forum for you to look at so that may also help :)

I would however recommend looking into the Oregon Scientific models as these allow you to add bits on and are well priced. For example you can get the main unit with Temp/Humidity sensors and then add in a rain gauge or other sensors for birthdays etc if he enjoys it?

Ross they also do some nice ones in Maplins...and fairly cheap...but look and perform well for the younger generation like me :drinks:

lol!

Yeah, you can get some reasonable stations in Argos/Lidl/Aldi etc. as well, it just depends on how much you want to spend and how accurate he would like the readings to be.

Hi thanku so much! We are looking up to £100.00, he is very interested so I'd like to get the best we can for that price:)

I'd recommend any of the Oregon Scientific stations from here:

The WMR80 sounds like it would be a good choice. I don't have the station myself, but hopefully somebody else can and will let you know how good it is. In terms of Reliability & Value for money you probably can't go wrong with it for your 11 year old son.

Something else you might want to consider is whether you want your station to be able to record its data to your PC - this will enable your son to build up historic records and see trends and patterns emerging locally

I know your budget was £100 but for just a little bit more this one seems a good option and is currently on offer

I've just bought myself a new one (different model to this) and I know how difficult it is to make the final decision as there are literally hundreds on the market but £100 is not a bad starting place in my opinion and if your son develops his interest you could invest more further down the line if you wanted to.

good luck anyway

Steve
