The Met-Office has annouced that the last 12 months have been the coldest 12 months in Britain since 1996 - bucking the world trend.

Seems a bit premature for the Office to announce this. A very cold December could actually see 2010 beat 1996 and be the coldest year since 1987 or 1986 depending on how cold it gets this month (note, I'm talking about CET temps)

Having re-read the article (and forgetting it is only December and a whole extra month to go) I have edited the post to confirm the last 12 months have been the coldest 12 month period since 1996. Who knows how cold this year will end up if we see the cold continuing..

this is the link to the Met O 2 December news release that very probably prompted yet another media misquote.

Why is it a 10 month year?

Because the data isn't yet available for Nov and Dec. Therefore they can only show the figure to end of Oct.

(Yeah I know, all that money spent by the MetO and they still haven't built themselves even a simple time machine :wallbash: )

The preliminary figure for January to October 2010 is 0.52 °C above the long-term average on the Met Office....

Even when we had a rather very cold January?

However, that is beside the point. How can you compare 12 months to 10 months? Are they assuming the missing two months?

Has this press release been hurriedly prepared for the Mexican climate change conference?

Is this what is called fraudulent science? I smell a rat, and it stinks.
