Regional Discussion Threads - Now Online

As you've probably now noticed, the regional discussions are now back online. They will be online throughout the whole of Winter and may then become a permanent part of the Netweather forums. We have a regional hosting team starting during the upcoming week too and they will be here to aid the discussion and help the moderating team in keeping everything running smoothly in this part of the forum.

We plan to be fairly flexible in terms of the regions this year, so when weather events are likely we'll have have threads for smaller more localised regions than when the weather is quieter. This will also give us some scope to have even more localised regions should a severe weather event be likely in a specific part of the country.

We hope you enjoying using these regional areas, but don't forget there are still many other areas to discuss the current and ongoing weather within the forums - so please do continue to get involved with the more general chat threads, the model discussions and so on.

We also ask that you do respect this part of the forum, by localising the threads it does make it easier for one or two 'bad eggs' to disrupt the discussion and ruin other's experience of it - the team will obviously be actively trying to make sure this doesn't happen, but the initial responsibility lies with all the members to consider others, and also hit that report button if anyone is being a pain!

Thanks

Paul

Thanks paul great, and the local severe weather event threads a very good idea if and when needed.

Can someone make a rule where people using the regionals MUST HAVE their location in their avatar. I'm getting fed up of people posting and not being able to see where they are from. :(

I don't think that's something that could be enforced, although it would be desirable.

The North East thread has been retitled to incorporate those Cumbrians who, like me, associate more with the North East, to make a Far North thread. If you live on the west coast, or the south of the county, and prefer to stick to the NW thread, then feel free!

Just a heads-up that with the end of winter approaching, the regional threads will be hibernating once again for the non-snowy seasons.

Traffic levels on the site don't justify so many threads outside peak cold weather, and discussion simply gets diluted and the forum frankly looks a mess and reads badly. Perhaps now is the time to reintegrate discussion in the main forum threads as a precursor to this section being closed.

It's been fun! Thanks :)

Further to Shuggee's post above, we are going to condense the regional threads into ones for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland for the duration of the spring and summer.

So, a big thank you to the regional hosts for helping out so much over what has been an eventful winter, leaving them with memories which will never leave them.....unless Paul agrees to pay their therapy costs (we await the court's decision). They'll be back in the winter, along with the full range of regional threads....probably.
