With some northern blocking now starting to show on the models, and cold pools appearing to our East, lets have a guess at where and when the first lowland snow cover will happen..

Here,s my guess..

East Anglia arround the 28th November..

It's already happened in Buxton.

But if I have to guess again, I will go for Durham city around November 30th.

Durham City, ey? drinks.gif

I'll go for widespread snow on the east coast, mainly NE Scotland and NE England. November 25th. crazy.gif

I'll go for widespread snow on the east coast and parts of the Pennines, Peak District. November 25th. crazy.gif

Durham is England's snowiest city mate.

Also he said lowland snow, so you can't have Pennines or Peak District.

28th November - Newcastle/ gateshead area as a northeasterly kicks in. I believe in Scotland the pressure will be too high to see the first showers, otherwise I would have gone for the granite city!

Looking promising for all the snow lovers towards the end of this month then :)

It has already happened in places in north-east Scotland, I'm not sure how low down, but parts of Aberdeen(shire) had snow last month.

It has indeed CMD. Aberdeen, Banff and Buchan all low level, had their first snow on Oct 20th. Of course Orkney&Shetland too. It would not have been overly unusual to see it a month earlier in the north and north east though really

Durham City the snowiest lowland city-well that is something I have never realised-does anyone have the average number of snow days for Durham as compared to Newcastle-upon-Tyne?

First week of Dec in East Anglia one one of those setups that gives beggar-all more than 20 miles from the east coast (again).

Earliest date for lying snow @ 0900 in 21st century so far 23rd Dec 2001. Last time in November was 1996, also in 1993 and 1988.

It's already happened in Buxton.

No it hasn't.

Maybe on the hills surrounding it, but not in the town.
