Very Cold November 1910 ;very Mild December 1910

November 1910 was a very cold month with a CET of just 3.2 This compares to the December that followed which was very mild with a CET of 6.4

Interestingly November 1910 although being very cold was infact on the wet side.

The highest maximum recorded in London for that November was 12.2C on the 1st, 4th and 6th. This was the lowest highest November maximum recorded in London since 1878. Leith recorded only 8.9C has its highest value recorded for that November

3 inches of snow at West Witton on 11th

4.5 inches of snow at Lllanybyther on 15th

3 inches of snow at Shifnal on 26th

7 inches of snow at Mansfield on 27th

A minimum of -13.9C was recorded at West Linton on the 23rd

Camden Square: Extremely cold with frequent and persistent rain. Mean temp: 3.7C, 15 air frosts.

Tenterden: 2nd wettest November since 1877, 4 inches of snow on 17th, 14 air frosts

Pitsford: Mean temp: 2.4C, 20 air frosts

Ross-on-Wye: 17 air frosts

Hodsock Priory: Coldest November for at least 35 years, 19 air frosts.

Southport: Mean temp: 3.8C

Hull: 16 air frosts

Edinburgh: Highest temp: 7.9C on 1st

Coupar Angus: Mean temp: 2C

Dublin: Coldest November since 1878; mean temp: 4.9C

Dungeness: 12.8C on 5th

Cirencester: 13.9C on 7th

Leith which recorded only a maximum of 8.9C during November, didn't recorded an air frost during the December

Serious floods in Witham Valley on 5th-7th

There was a serious gale on the 16th

Colchester: Violent gales and floods

Norwich: Terrific gale at night

Portland: Sea washed over Chesil Beach and did considerable damage

Taunton: Heavy gale blew down many trees

Camden Square: A singularly mild month, only 1 day did the maximum fall below 4.4C. 18 days above 10C. 3 air frosts

Tenterden: 5 air frosts

Pitsford: mean temp: 5.4C

Hodsock Priory: Very mild with no snow, 6 air frosts

Southport: mean temp: 6.7C

Hull: 6 air frosts

Edinburgh: 2 air frosts

Coupar Angus: persistently wet

Dublin: Mild wet month, mean temp: 6.9C

The stark difference in temperatures can be seen in these figures from Camden Square

Nov mean temp: 3.7C (-2.7C)

Dec mean temp: 6.9C (+2.6C)

Nov mean max: 7.4C (-2.0C)

Dec mean max: 9.3C (+2.5C)

Nov mean min: 0.2C (-3.2C)

Dec mean min: 4.4C (+2.7C)

Rainfall figures are very similar

Nov: 81mm

Dec: 83.6mm

December 1910 recorded only 13.1hrs

There was a spate of very cold Novembers around that time: 1910, 1915, 1919, 1923 and 1925 all had Novembers with a CET below 4C, but we haven't one since (and I certainly wouldn't bet on us getting one this year).

There was also a spate of December being milder than November around that period as well
